In a nutshell

A clever and soothing chair that (hopefully) will mean the end to driving around in the car for hours.

Pros

  • Deep seat that hugs baby, replicates sounds and motion of a car, reasonable cost compared to other chairs, music option as well as car sounds

Cons

  • Can't be used once baby can sit unaided, pale colours may not be to your taste, doesn't fold away

If you’d like to find a way of calming your baby without driving them around in the car for hours on end, the Fisher-Price Cruisin’ Motion Soother is a petrol-free alternative.

Fisher-Price, that well-known name behind a range of baby products and playthings, has developed this great idea of a soothing chair that mimics the sounds and motion of car. Rather than bouncing a baby about, the new Fisher-Price Cruisin’ Motion Soother imitates the uneven motion of a car and includes sounds like a car engine and windscreen wipers. If that all gets too much there is also soft music.

I’m a mum-of-two, and while I’ve passed the newborn phase, the trauma is not forgotten! When asked to review the Fisher-Price Cruisin’ Motion Soother I whisked it off to my friend Sam and her just born baby boy, Oliver. Sam already has two children so can’t spend time driving around the neighbourhood to get Oliver to sleep.

What we love

One thing I’ve found with baby chairs is once you start to get the bells and whistles, the price starts to creep up. The Fisher Price Cruisin’ Motion Soother is a shade under £70 - a reasonable price for something that will last several months, and which could really become a lifesaver if your baby needs constant movement to settle.

It’s incredibly easy to put together and is neutral enough that it works for a boy or girl.

Newborn Oliver absolutely loves the deep bucket seat, similar to the depth of a car seat, and it means he can’t throw himself sideways out the seat.

Now to the most important question – does it work? Oliver loves it, he is relaxed and the motion does put him to sleep. We’ve heard from other mums that this isn’t always the case and as with most baby products it’s about finding the right thing for your little one. Fisher-Price has carried out extensive parent testing before bringing this chair to the market.

What to watch out for

As lovely as this seat is, it currently comes in very ‘baby’ colours. If you’re looking for an uber-stylish bouncer, this probably isn’t for you. It also doesn’t fold away so if space is limited this might not be the best choice.

The Fisher-Price Cruisin’ Motion Soother needs four large batteries for the movement and sound to work so if your baby loves it then make sure you have a good stock of them in the house.

Who is the Fisher Price Cruisin’ Motion Soother best for?

Mums and dads looking for a way to get their baby off to sleep that leaves their arms free and car in the garage.

MadeForMums verdict

If your baby has troubles settling or loves the sounds and movement of a car and you need a baby chair, this could be the reasonably priced answer you’ve been looking for. It may not the best choice if you have limited space because it doesn’t fold away, but you will only need it around for several months of use.
