Olympian Steve Parry introduces his 8 week old daughter, two years after beating testicular cancer
Olympic bonze medalist Steve Parry is still on cloud nine after becoming a dad for the first time, just three years after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Steve, 35, who won Bronze in the 2004 Athens Olympics, noticed a dull ache in one testicle while on his honeymoon in 2009. After finding a lump, he and his new wife Thea were devastated to receive Steve's cancer diagnosis.
“The first thing that went through my head was, ‘What about kids?’” Steve told the Mirror. “We were just married and I was really keen on having a family straight away.”
Steve had an operation to remove the effected testicle and though he didn’t need chemotherapy, doctors recommended waiting around two years before trying for children. After receiving the all-clear 18 months later, the couple got to work.
“Within six weeks Thea was pregnant. Job done. It all still works!” Steve said.

The swimmer also revealed that he’s quite the doting dad. “It’s so much better than I thought it would be. The love I have for Ava is something I’ve never felt before. I feel real pride and joy,” said Steve.
Ava is now 8 weeks old and Steve is back in the pool, swimming for charity with other ex-Olympians. Wonder if we’ll see Ava following in dad’s splashes in the future?
