Stranger shocks mum breastfeeding in public - in an incredible way
Uh-oh, here we go, thought a breastfeeding mum when someone approached her in a cafe. But when the woman picked up her knife and fork, something unexpected happened...
It’s not often we see a viral Facebook post about a mum’s experience breastfeeding in public that’s actually… well… positive.
So it really warmed our hearts to hear about a mum named Briar Lusia McQueen, who was nearly brought to tears by a stranger as she breastfed her 8-week-old son Jaxon in public.
Just as she was about to tuck into breakfast, her baby son, of course, needed to be fed. Hot food, hungry baby - we all know where that's leading. So naturally she started feeding Jaxon, and soon after an an older woman came over to her table. Briar immediately thought she was in for a shaming moment.
On Facebook, she wrote:

“Today was the first time I went out for breakfast alone with my 8 week old son. I had just received my breakfast and hot chocolate when Jaxon started crying wanting his booby so of course I fed him.
“After a few minutes this older lady walked up to me, I was scared, thinking she was gonna tell me to put my boob away.
“Instead, she starts cutting up my breakfast for me and said ‘what a good mama you are, we can't have your food getting cold can we’
“I honestly could have cried?? loveliest lady EVER!!"
This. This is what we like to see. More support. Less shaming.
Is it any wonder this post has been liked more than 304,000 times? We think not.
We’d love it if there were more people like this lovely lady around! And so did most of the 14,000 people commenting on the post (of course, there are always some who are uncomfy with breastfeeding in public and even some who couldn't stomach the thought of a stranger cutting up their food). But most loved the story with some sharing their own experiences...

"Good job. I went out with my 3 children. A 5 year old, a 1 year old and new baby. I was entertainment for everyone around me with constant offers of help. I fed myself, baby on the breast and the other 2 picked at their food. I looked like an octopus on the move but I was starving and had to eat. We all got fed, the older gentleman beside me was nearly wiping my children's chins trying to help. The girls were having none of it. It was normal for them."
"I went to a nice little restaurant for breakfast and the same thing happened to me timing wise. The sweet waitress took my plate back and brought me a fresh hot one. It's the little things..."
