Mum-of-three Denise Richards has revealed that she had to sit her children, Sam, 7, and Lola, 6, down and tell them about addiction, after they heard rumours about their dad, Charlie Sheen.

The actress said she tried to make sure her daughters avoided all the media coverage about their dad and his extremely public meltdown. However, when they heard rumours, she wanted to set the story straight, reports Daily Mail.

"I got a book to read to them," Denise told Matt Lauer, host of the Today show.

"I was just lying to them so much, and covering up things and totally lying. It was just getting too confusing that I had to sit down with them. I told them enough for them to make sense of things that were going on," Denise said.

Denise, 40, also admitted that it was "too early" for Sam and Lola to really understand what was going on. However, Denise still speaks highly of her former husband, and said she cared for his well-being and that he is a survivor.

"If anyone can pull themselves together, it's Charlie," she added.

Denise Richards recently adopted a 6-week-old baby, Eloise Joni. Denise said both her daughters are excited their new addition to the family and that they "love feeding her and changing her". Aww!
