Pregnant mum Rebecca White-Carter has vowed to have her baby early so her dying son can meet his brother or sister before he dies. Rebecca, from West Yorkshire, will be induced three weeks before her due date to make sure 8-year-old Pierce meets his little brother or sister.

Pierce was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a form of cancer, in October last year and referred to St James's Hospital in Leeds. “They put him on a course of chemotherapy but after a few weeks tests showed nothing had changed,” said Rebecca. “They decided on a more rigorous course of chemo, but last week told us that the treatment wasn’t going to provide a cure.”

When Rebecca learnt that cuddling his new brother or sister was top of Pierce’s wish list, she made the decision to have her baby early. “We don’t know how long he’s got. They have said he might have only weeks, but no-one knows,” says Rebecca.

Pierce ticked off another item on his wish list over the Easter weekend when he was mascot to rugby team, The Huddersfield Giants. “It was a wonderful experience for Pierce and the rest of us,” said mum Rebecca, who hopes to continue to raise awareness of the disease, which affects 100 children in Britain each year.
