For some of us, being pregnant is a joy from start to finish. But for many of us, there are a fair few aspects of expecting that simply aren't enjoyable.

Uncomfortable physical symptoms, all the emotion, dealing with work and getting your head around the big changes ahead – yep, there's lots of stuff that could make the whole 9-month experience less than idyllic ?

For new mum Cheryl, who gave birth to 6-month-old son Bear back in March 2017, it seems one or more of these things came to the fore during her pregnancy.

And as a result, she didn't have the greatest time with it.

Speaking to The Sun in a rare interview, Cheryl admitted, "[Parenthood] changes your life completely but in the most amazing way. But [since Bear was born] I’ve had the best 6 months of my life. Really.

More like this

"I hated being pregnant. A lot of stuff went on and I just didn’t enjoy it."

(Cheryl, who now goes by her maiden name Tweedy, was also dealing with her divorce from Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini around the same time pregnancy rumours started.)

On the plus side, she did add that she viewed her pregnancy as an opportunity to step back from the spotlight and slow down a bit.

"I didn't stop for 14 years – literally on the roller coaster," she said. "And then when I got pregnant I thought, 'Right, I just don't need this stress.' So I relaxed."

Cheryl had always talked about her desire to become a mam, so we don't doubt her when she says that the first few months of motherhood have been her favourite.

Though we do think it's interesting, as we're sure many of us would say that the first 6 months with a new baby can be pretty tough! ✊

Have your say

Did you enjoy your pregnancy, or did you find it hard, like Cheryl did? (No shame either way: we're all super-grateful, of course, to be able to have babies ?)
