What to Expect When You’re Expecting actress Elizabeth Banks has spoken about how before welcoming her son Felix by surrogate, her 30 Rock co-star Alec Baldwin suspected she was expecting.

“Alec Baldwin asked me straight up – I had made a comment about wearing a fake belly, something innocuous and he looked me straight in the eye and asked me, ‘Are you pregnant right now?’,” Elizabeth, 38, told Allure magazine.

“And I blanched totally. Because of course, technically, no I wasn’t. But then, technically, yes, in a way I was,” Elizabeth added. “I thought Alec was reading my mind or something. Well we weren’t telling anyone then, so I said ‘No,’ I thought, is that a lie? Because it wasn’t a lie, and yet it was a lie!”

The Hunger Games star Elizabeth and husband Max Handelman welcomed son Felix in March 2011.

The Daily Mail reports that Elizabeth shared the news on her blog at the time, writing, “After years of trying to get pregnant, exploring the range of fertility treatments, all unsuccessful, our journey led us to gestational surrogacy: we make a ‘baby cake’ and bake it in another woman’s oven.”

Elizabeth went on to describe the birth of her son as a ‘miracle’, and revealed the significance behind baby Felix’s name. “Felix means ‘happy’ and ‘lucky’ in Latin. And true to his name, Felix is a very happy baby and a blessing on our life,” Elizabeth blogged.
