Dad-of-4 Hugh Grant made everyone laugh during a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything).

The 55-year-old actor was taking part in the Q&A session (where users submit questions to the online forum and the participant answers the best ones) with his most recent co-star Meryl Streep.

The unlikely duo - who star together in Florence Foster Jenkins - were just as brilliantly funny in their answers as you’d expect.

And Hugh was especially keen to get some laughs during a question referencing his role in the 2006 romcom Music & Lyrics (if you haven’t seen it, we’d highly recommend it).

Just in case: Hugh plays a fading ‘80s popstar with one iconic track, called PoP Goes My Heart (watch and listen here for maximum impact).

The fan asked: “Hugh - About how often does PoP Goes My Heart PoP into your head? For me, it's all the time and I don't know why.”

Hugh’s deadpan response was as follows: “I like to perform PoP Goes My Heart with all the dance moves every morning and every evening, with my children.

“It's our little routine. it's like The Sound of Music. If they don't do it I beat them.”

We know Hugh’s bracing sarcasm won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but we gotta admit, we did LOL when we first read it.

Since Tabitha, 4, Felix Chang, 3, John Mungo, 3, and his baby daughter are very young, we imagine the reality would be a total shambles.

Before you feel guilty for laughing, even the legendary Meryl knew he was kidding straight away, adding: “Oh man, that’s gonna go round the world.”

It's clear to us that's it's just a bad dad joke.

Given that the dad joke is designed to make you groan and embarrass the kids - rather than win you over with sophisticated comedy - we’d say it’s a 10/10.

If you need a bit more proof that Hugh was charming his way through the Q&A with his biting sense of humour, check out some of the other responses to Reddit users' questions below:

What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

“Don't wear that jumpsuit. I had a girlfriend who decided in 1978 that I should have a jumpsuit, which were quite trendy.

"But mine was too small from crotch to shoulder especially after it had been in the washing machine, so I had to go around with a slight stoop and all the dye ran.

"I remember when I took it off I was bright blue. It was a mistake. We all made mistakes.”

Which of you had the most fun on set?

“I've never had any fun on a set. I'm a miserable presence and I like to make other people miserable too if I possibly can.”

When did you realise the desire to be an actor was a legitimate passion to pursue?

“Well, it was my triumphant success as Brigitta Von Trapp, the third daughter of the Von Trapp family in a school play when I was about 14.

"I wore a white dress with a blue satin sash, and I had a very funny line, and I got a big laugh. I realised this was my destiny.”

Who do you want to play you in the movie of your life?

“Colin Firth, obviously. I know it's the role he wants more than anything.”
