Meet the Tube worker who's become a hero to pregnant women

The London Underground staffer's mission to get pregnant women train seats has made him a viral star

A man who works for London Underground has become a hero to pregnant women travelling on public transport… for good reason!

The worker, known only as Pip, mans the Northern Line platforms at London Bridge station, and makes it his mission to ensure all pregnant women get a seat on his tubes.

Pip's sunny attitude and helpfulness inspired a lengthy post on Mummy's Gin Fund Facebook page championing his work.

😍

The post reads:

“This is Pip,” it begins.

“Pip works on the northbound platform of the Northern Line at London Bridge Underground Station for Transport for London.

“The northbound Northern Line in rush hour can be pretty hellish. It's packed, it's hot, everyone is in a rush, there are bags, briefcases, suitcases, delays, overcrowding. It's not the sort of place you go for a holiday.

“EVERY SINGLE MORNING, PIP FINDS SEATS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN ON THE STATION AND TUBE.

“He jollies everyone along with his funny comments and his cry of 'Unfortunately that looks about it...'

“Commuting is hard enough, but when coupled with pregnancy it can be enough to drive some of us over the edge. Pregnant women get hot, dizzy, sick, tired, swollen, in pain and have a greater sense of personal space. The hustle and bustle of the tube isn't always a great thing! Pip takes the time to make things better for us.”

Seriously, we LOVE this 💝

We know that it can be tough to get anyone to sacrifice their seat for a heavily pregnant woman, and often many women have to employ a series of tactics to ensure a much-needed sit down on the train.

It’s such a problem that someone even invented an app designed to make train seats flash whenever a pregnant woman approaches, alerting the seated passenger and encouraging them to move.

Ideally, everyone should get a seat on the train, but that’s just not the world we live in.

So people like Pip going out of their way for those who genuinely could do with a sit-down clearly makes a difference.

Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long after the original post that #belikepip inspired an amazing response on Twitter.

One tweeter said: "This man is a legend. Please keep him on the platforms and use him as a shining example of customer service to others #belikepip"

"And people say London isn't friendly! This is lovely #belikepip" wrote another.

And one mum commuter added: "Commuting was one of the hardest parts of being pregnant for me. I wish @Se_Railway had a Pip! #belikepip"

Let’s hope this nice man gets rewarded for his kindness 😊

We could all do with more people like Pip in the world!

Have you encountered a transport worker like Pip? Or witnessed a special act of kindness on a train? We’d love to hear your story on Facebook
