The makers behind the Lammily doll have launched a 'Period Party' expansion pack
Dolls are great for role-play. Whether it's driving a car, owning a house, getting married or having a baby – dolls will often play out these roles years before the child that imagines them. But now, one doll is recreating a rather more realistic life event – the menstrual cycle.
The makers behind the average-sized, realistic doll Lammily are now making a 'Period Party' expansion pack available to teach young girls about menstruation.
The accessory pack includes a pair of pants and 18 reusable sanitary pads and liners stickers. It also comes with an educational leaflet and a calendar and dot stickers, so you can track Lammily's period.
"On average, a woman between the ages of 12 and 51 spends a total of 6 years on her menstrual period," the description on the Lammily website reads. "Yet, while being a huge part of female life, this perfectly healthy natural process is still surrounded with taboos.
"Let’s start an open and positive conversation about our periods."

In an advert for the doll, two parents try to explain to their daughter how periods work using a rather awkward rap. The young girl looks increasingly uncomfortable until her older sister comes in and suggest they use the doll to explain it instead.
