Everyone, it’s time to give MFM Awards judge Rochelle Humes a round of applause ???

Why? Because the 28-year-old mum of 2 just practiced what she preaches to her 4-year-old daughter, Alaia-Mai.

Little Alaia, who recently started first school, broke her mum’s heart when she told her she didn’t like her natural, tight curly hair – because it doesn’t make her look ‘like a princess’.

And Rochelle, who typically styles her hair straight despite also having natural curls, realised the issue was actually a lot closer to home…

“#GoingBackToMyRoots ? My 4 year old little girl Alaia has been telling me for a while that she doesn't like her curly hair, at first (as us Mums do) I didn't think it was a big deal,” Rochelle told her 1.1m Instagram fans.

“Once I realised this wasn't a phase I asked her why she didn't like her curls. It broke my heart when she told me it was because she didn't look like a Princess.

“And I quote: ‘I don't Mummy because Elsa and Rapunzel have long straight hair’.”

Rochelle didn’t just tell her little girl that her hair was beautiful (which, of course, it is ?), she went further and set an example for her daughter – by embracing her own bouncy locks.

“It then dawned on me that maybe this issue started closer to home because, all she has ever known is her Mummy to style her hair straight,” she continued. “When in fact mine is naturally curly too.

“So moving forward into the New Year I've decided to finally embrace everything that make me ME. She is already over the moon that we have 'matching hair'!!

“My curls are a far cry from what they used to be but, I'm hoping with less heat and a little TLC they will come back to life.

“This is for you Alaia-Mai, Mummy's hair IDOL! ???”

Do we even need to add that Rochelle’s bronze curls are simply gorgeous, too?

Here at MFM HQ, we know this is an issue many mums with curly-haired little girls come up against – because it is true that most Princess characters have impossibly long, flowy locks.

We’ve also, from our own experience, found it a big talking point for naturally short-haired girls, too.

One of the mums on our team has a 6-year-old girl whose hair doesn’t grow much at all. Though she’s got a chic cropped ‘do, she often wonders aloud about why she doesn’t have that Rapunzel length.
