The rumours have been dominating the headlines since the beginning of the month, but Simon Cowell has spoken out for the first time to confirm that he is expecting a child with 36-year-old New Yorker Lauren Silverman.
Speaking from the red carpet at the premiere of One Direction: This Is Us, the music mogul yesterday told the BBC: "I'm proud to be a dad. It's something I hadn't thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it."
The X Factor head added: “Things are changing in my life right now, for the better.”
News broke three weeks ago that New York socialite Lauren Silverman might be pregnant with Simon Cowell’s child, but the pair had maintained a steely silence until now.
Lauren was married to Simon’s close friend, real estate executive Andrew Silverman, but the couple separated before the baby rumours spread. Their divorce was confirmed last week.

Lauren has reportedly been lying low at her home in the Hamptons with her 7-year-old son Adam and her soon-to-be ex-husband as they negotiate a deal that includes joint custody. Meanwhile, Simon has been holidaying on a luxury yacht in the Mediterranean.
The mum-and-dad-to-be are now set to be reunited for the first time since she agreed the divorce, according to the MailOnline, with 12-weeks-pregnant Lauren planning to fly to Europe tomorrow.
