A woman who had no idea she was pregnant has given birth 35,000ft above the Pacific Ocean during a flight to Japan – now that's what you call a dramatic birth! Cabin crew on the Air Canada flight from Calgary to Narita were stunned when Ada Guan told them she was giving birth after a stomach pain she'd felt back in Canada got worse.

Thankfully there was a doctor on board to help - it's not just in the movies that happens.

Ada's boyfriend Wesley Branch takes up the story: "I lifted up her pants and I saw a head and then I heard waahhhh! And I'm like oh my god, I think we have a kid."

The new dad admits he then "passed right out" after the birth. We wonder how Ada felt!

The entire cabin burst into spontaneous applause at the birth. "Everyone was clapping their hands," one passenger said. "She's such a cute baby with big eyes."

The flight was given priority and moved forward a number of planes in the queue to land 30 minutes early – where a ground-based medical team was waiting – alongside Japanese TV cameras that caught the moment Ada was taken off the plane on a stretcher.

Despite the shock, Wesley was able to reveal the newborn's name. "I couldn't imagine, this just happened completely unexpectedly," Wesley said. "It turned out we have a little baby, beautiful girl. Her name is Chloe."

Mum and baby were taken to hospital after landing on Sunday and stayed the night.

It was not known how far into her pregnancy Ada was when she boarded the flight. The new dad's parents Sandra and David Branch told CBC News they didn't know she was pregnant.

"I said to her, 'Did you not feel anything inside?' and she said 'No, every once in a while I felt gas or rumblings in there' but never thinking it was a baby in there," says Sandra who insists there was no sign Ada was pregnant when they saw her 3 weeks earlier.
