South Koreans are being encouraged to stay at home and get busy!
The Ministry of Health in South Korea will be switching their lights off at 7pm today in the hopes that workers will go home and multiply. The ‘experiment’ will be conducted every month with the aim of increasing the country’s low birth rate, which is one of the world’s lowest.
The South Korean government has stated increasing the birth rate is one of its priorities and so by encouraging its staff to have babies it is hoping others will follow suit.
Officials who are able to have more than one child are treated to generous gift vouchers, whilst the health department, hoping to foster love amongst their bureaucrats, hosts social gatherings.
However, critics claim the real solution lies in tackling the heavy cost of childcare and education that puts many young people off starting a family.
