Eva Mendes has finally revealed why she chose to name her daughter after a Disney film character. The 41-year-old and her partner Ryan Gosling welcomed baby Esmeralda Amada Gosling on 12 September last year, and at the time we suspected that Disney may have influenced their baby name choice.

But now, Eva has revealed that the heroine in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame WAS the inspiration behind her unusual name choice.

"We love The Hunchback of Notre Dame, we loved the name - the cartoon and the novel," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "It just kind of kept coming back to us."

And Eva says using Esmeralda also has another advantage – it's easy for her Cuban family to pronounce. "It's actually a very popular Latin name, so it's easy for my father and certain family members that still don't speak English to pronounce," she added. "That was a good selling point."

The mum-of-1 also spoke about how she realised how great her family is, now she has a child of her own (don't we all!). "I've never appreciated my family so much, they've been amazing," she said. "I don't technically have a nanny, but I do have help. I'm certainly not anti-nanny, you do what you need to do as a parent, but I'm so grateful that I have help with my family and his family."
