You won't believe what this mum expressing in her car was told by a stranger

Telaine Smith was left in shock by the confrontation

Sat in her parked car, expressing milk for her 5-month-old son, Telaine Smith didn't expect to be disturbed. So the Australian mum-of-2 was shocked when a man and woman walked past – and the woman approached the vehicle.

"Put your f***ing tits away," the woman said.

Telaine, 31, from Queensland, Australia, was shocked into speechlessness but fortunately her son Dallas, 6, was sat in the back of the car – and knew exactly how to deal with the woman's rudeness.

"If you don't like it, you don't need to look," he countered.

"I'm very proud of my 6-year-old," the mum admitted.

You see, Telaine's youngest son Pilot was tongue-tied when he was born – which stopped him from latching on to her breast to breastfeed. But determined that her youngest would still get all the benefits of breastmilk, Telaine persevered with expressing milk for him and feeding him with a bottle.

Telaine's dedication to feeding Pilot breastmilk means she needs to express for 30 minutes every 2 to 3 hours – which is how she found herself expressing milk in the car park of a DIY store.

But she says she was in a car with tinted windows away from the crowds when the man and woman walked past and saw her.

"I was a bit shocked," Telaine told her local news, the Fraser Coast Chronicle.

But the worst part of the woman's outburst was that it made her tense – making it harder for her to express milk.

She said plenty of places, including coffee shops around Queensland, had supported her right to express. And she's shocked members of the public still don't realise it's illegal to try and prevent a mum from expressing milk or breastfeeding a baby.

"It's discrimination," she said, adding that people seem to interpret her expressing milk in public as being "confrontational".

"People see it as sexual," she said. "They have to realise it's not."
