Jo Frost's guidance for nervous new mums

TV's Supernanny is back on TV has the answers to what's on your mind

Posted: 2 December 2009

Q: I recently gave birth to my first child and feel very nervous. What should I be doing to ensure we don’t have the extreme problems faced by the families on your shows in years to come?

Jo Frost says: It’s so lovely that as mums, you want to get things right and be the best you can. Jumping ahead by years is natural, but try to live in the moment. That first year flies by – enjoy it while you can and take it week by week. Keeping a log book will help you identify a pattern in her wellbeing, and getting as much support and sleep in the first month will be essential for both of you.

Every journey has its boulders – there will be moments when things don’t go right, and times you resolve matters and move
on. Look at the questions we’ve dealt with in this feature. The wisest thing is that you want to get it right – it’s the only place a mum can start and I’m confident you’ll learn along the way what’s best for you and your little one.

May I advise you to pick up my book, Jo Frost’s Confident Baby Care (Orion, £12.99), to give you a head start.
