Watch our video to see what your baby looks like this week

Your baby’s building up muscles and flexing them, waving little arms and legs around like a jerky synchronised swimmer. And, up there in the jaw, the tooth-bud fairy is conjuring up tiny gnashers below the gums.

So what's happening to your body this week?

It’s all happening in your bowels right now – or rather, not happening. Pregnancy has a nasty habit of putting your innards on a go-slow, which does have its upsides (more time for food nutrients to be absorbed into your bloodstream, and passed on your baby) but the downsides can be a bit of an erm, strain.

Help things along by upping your fluid and fibre intake (prune juice, anyone?) and if things don’t come unstuck, ask your GP for a ‘stool softener’ or a mild, pregnancy-safe laxative: trust us, it’s worth the temporary tell-the-doctor squirm for the truly blessed relief…

Tip of the week from our community

“It's hard to explain why you're not drinking. I found that telling people I had hurt my back and was on strong painkillers was a good way of hiding it. Then when I need to go for 12-week scan I can tell family I'm having an X-ray on my back as it's no better!” said Nicola, a member of our MadeForMums community.

Got some stretch mark cream yet?

10-weeks-pregnant_week10stretch-mark-cream

We'd love to tell you a fail-safe way to avoid getting stretch marks... but we can't. Still, there are stretch mark creams, oils and body lotions that can help.

Although they're not magic potions, they do help keep your skin hydrated and more elastic, helping it to stretch more easily – and hopefully keeping the lines at bay. It's suggested that, gulp, more than 50% of us will get a few streaky lines, so now's a good time to get moisturising...

Our preg recipe for week 10 - Avocado, bacon and honey mustard chicken salad

10-weeks-pregnant_147540

Why avocado is great for your growing baby

High in the ‘healthy fats’ that nutritionists get all excited about, avocado also ticks loads of early-pregnancy nutrient boxes with tip-top doses of folic acid, potassium, vitamin C and (morning-sickness-alleviating) vitamin B6.

Spread some on toast for a quick, quease-easing breakfast (not for nothing is avocado also called butter fruit) or slice generously into salads, snacks and sarnies.
