Mum-to-be Marni Kotak will spend five weeks inside a gallery waiting to ‘perform’ her labour live.
Pregnant performance artist Marni Kotak is certainly going to bring a whole new meaning to the phrase, “Here’s one I made earlier”. Marni, who has previously lost her virginity live in the name of entertainment, has taken root inside the Microscope gallery, New York, and visitors to the gallery are advised that the pregnant artist might give birth at any minute. Now being referred to as a ‘performance’, Marni will showcase ‘The Birth of Baby X’ to whichever lucky (or should that be unlucky?) visitors happen to be in the right place at the right time. The artist will have both her husband and a midwife on standby. For Marni, giving birth is the “greatest expression of life” and she believes that her live birth will be perceived as a high form of art. Artistry or a bit of an overshare?
