Have IVF or give up alcohol and caffeine?

If you’re trying to conceive, cutting out alcohol and caffeine is as good as fertility treatment, claims specialist.

If you’re trying to get pregnant, you’re as likely to conceive by doing away with alcohol and caffeine as you by undergoing fertility treatment, claims nutrition specialist Dr Emma Derbyshire, reports the Daily Mail.

According to Dr Derbyshire, 32% of those struggling to conceive fell pregnant by cutting out stimulants, such as alcohol and caffeine. For those who had IVF, 33% became pregnant.

Giving up smoking is as vital as a healthy diet in bettering your fertility levels, too, Dr Derbyshire advised. A woman’s likelihood of conceiving can be delayed by two months if she smokes, previous studies have revealed.

When it comes to alcohol’s role, Dr Derbyshire explained that the chances of falling pregnant dropped from 60% in women who consumed one to five alcoholic drinks a week, to 30% for women who had more than 10 drink each week.

Couples should address their health and lifestyles before opting for expensive fertility treatment, Dr Derbyshire, of Manchester Metropolitan University said.

Our trying to conceive section has plenty of info on preparing for pregnancy, fertility boosters, fertility problems, and how to know if you’re pregnant.
