Pregnant mum Eleanore Regan from Bath hopes to carry the Olympic flame the day before her due date
Charity worker and pregnant mum-of-one Eleanore Regan is set to carry the Olympic torch the day before she’s due to give birth, reports the BBC.
“I’ve spoken to baby, it’s not going anywhere. It has promised but I did buy a 2012 babygrow in case,” Eleanore said. “I won’t be running, I’ll be waddling,” she added. Eleanore hopes to carry the torch for a 300-metre stint in Bath on 22 May.
The 28-year-old mum-to-be was nominated as a torchbearer by her friends and was selected by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) for her charity work here and abroad.
Eleanore, who founded Challenge Africa in 2006, was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. She said, “I feel really lucky because it [the brain tumour] has made me appreciate everything. We think it’s come back but I dealt with it last year, so I’ll deal with it again.”
On top of working on community projects in Africa, Eleanore also supports social service teams and ex-offenders in the UK, and helped set up a Bristol community café.
A spokeswoman from LOCOG said, “We are aware of Eleanore’s situation and she has assured us she is comfortable with taking part in the relay. We do have a doctor in the convoy who will be able to assist.”
