Viagra helps mum conceive

After IVF attempts failed, a Viagra prescription helped one Yorkshire woman fall pregnant.

After a miscarriage and three unsuccessful rounds of IVF, Kerry Horan has become a mum for the first time with the help of Viagra, reports the Sun.

It’s thought that Kerry, a 34-year-old teacher from Huddersfield, is the first person to have successfully conceived and had a baby with the help of this method.

When IVF treatment didn’t help Kerry conceive, a scan revealed there was poor blood flow to her womb. The womb lining was too thin for an embryo to successfully implant. Viagra was recommended to boost blood flow.

"I was shocked when they mentioned it, but willing to try anything,” Kerry said.

“Minutes after taking it my body went pink and my face bright red. I took Viagra for nine days and it wasn't a pleasant experience."

Another scan showed the womb lining had thickened. Doctors implanted embryos and two weeks later Kerry was pregnant.

"It (Viagra) can improve the lining, but can be dangerous and must be taken under supervision,” said Dr George Ndukwe, the director of the fertility clinic where Kerry was treated.

"When we saw the baby's heartbeat on a scan we couldn't stop crying,” Kerry said.

Kerry and husband David became parents in December, when 6lb 11oz daughter Grace was born. “When I finally held Grace it was the most emotional experience. Thanks to Viagra I'm a mother at last!"
