Newborn Amelia Hope Burden is developing well after being born at just 23 weeks and two days old. Her brother Arthur, arrived 10 days later weighing 1lb 4oz.

When Amanda Staplehurst was rushed into hospital with stomach cramps, her fears were realised when doctors told her that she was in labour. Amanda’s daughter, Amelia Hope was delivered weighing just 1lb 2oz and thanks to swift action from doctors, the tiny baby girl survived.

However the drama did not end for Amanda while she was left worrying about the health of her new premature baby, she was still pregnant with Amelia’s twin brother.

“Doctors said she had just a 10 per cent of chance of survival and we never thought she’d pull though.

“Then having delivered Amelia Hope, it was totally bizarre that for ten days I remained pregnant with Arthur. The doctors have told us they’ve never come across a case like it.” Amanda told the Daily Mail.

Arthur was born by caesarean section; the twins are now being looked after in side-by-side incubators.
