That traditionally meant that lightweight pushchairs were never the first choice of buggy for parents of newborn, as most were only suitable from 6 months up.

But that's all changed! The last year has seen a whole host of brand new lightweight buggies with infant carrycots or cocoons, so great to use with a small baby. And, what's even better, most are travel system compatible too!

They are still a little heavier than our very best lightweights, but still all under 9kg, meaning they could be the only buggy you’ll need to buy.

A game changer as far as lightweight buggies are concerned, the Babyzen Yoyo was the first stroller certified to fit in an aeroplane overhead locker and it’s been an instant hit since then.

This stroller can not only be used with a carrycot, but it can also fit all Maxi-Cosi infant car seats.

The shopping basket is nicely-sized and big enough for a pack of nappies and two pints of milk. The nice, large hood offers good sun protection, and the included raincover is easy to fit.

An ultra-stylish buggy from the makers of the Priam, the Cybex Mios is the brand’s lightweight stroller.

This travel system compatible stroller comes complete with a luxurious carrycot (that has a memory foam mattress) puncture proof wheels, compact fold and all-wheel suspension.

Tested to hold a child up to 17kg (around 4 years and a full 2kg more than most buggies on the market) it’s certainly a long-lasting buggy.

This buggy is slightly over the 9kg mark, but is certainly a worth addition to this list. An easy-to-push, maneuverable stroller that comes from designer buggy maker Bugaboo.

The Bee 5 is the updated version on the brands lightweight pushchair and is perfect for urban parents with a new baby who use public transport a lot.

When folded, the Bugaboo Bee 5 is compact and can be stored on its side - easily fitting in the boot of all but the very smallest cars.

Brand new for 2018 is the updated iCandy Raspberry. The British brand’s lightest stroller, the new Raspberry can now be used with a carrycot and it’s suitable for overnight sleeping too.

What’s great about this buggy, aside from the eye-cathing style, is that fact that it can be used up to whopping 25kg, which is around 5-6 years of use!

Another new buggy for 2018. Baby Jogger has taken its super compact stroller and now made it suitable for newborns, with the addition of a carrycot.

The brilliance behind this buggy is that the carrycot is foldable and folds while still on the frame. What’s more is that it’s still really compact when folded. The City Tour Lux is also travel system compatible with the Baby Jogger Go infant car seat.

From the brand behind the hugely-popular Vista and Cruz pushchairs, UPPAbaby has created its first compact stroller.

This one’s small and light but has a big basket that can hold up to 5kg! Nice-to-push, suitable from birth with the carrycot, the Minu also features a quick one-hand fold and is travel system compatible.

Cybex has a couple of lightweight strollers in its collection already, one in to form of the Mios, listed above. However, the brand is launching a couple of new light, super small strollers, the Eezy S and the Eezy S Twist.

We’ve picked the Eezy S Twist to join this list as it’s suitable from birth to 17kg and is very compact when folded. But it’s the seat unit that really makes this stroller stand out, as it has a 360-degree rotation, so babies can face parents or the world in one simple, quick twist.
