The Kiddy Infinity Pro is different to any other car seat in its class. It dispenses with the traditional 5-point harness, and instead has an impact protection shield, that fits over your child’s lap and chest like a cushion, and is held in place with the car’s seatbelt. This makes it lighter and easier to move from car to car, but means that it’s quite a different experience for the child sitting in it, which may/may not go down well at first with your child.
You don’t have to fit the seat, as all the ‘fitting’ is done once your child is sitting in it. You pop the Infinity Pro into the car, slide the impact shield over your child’s lap and into the slots on the car seat, and then fit the car’s seatbelt across the front of the shield to hold it in place. The seat also has a ‘honeycomb’ material in the side sections around the head and shoulders, to offer really excellent side impact protection.
What we love
We’re always hearing that many parents fit child car seats incorrectly, but with the Kiddy Infinity Pro, there’s no way that you could make a mistake, which is very reassuring. This is partly because it’s incredibly simple to use, but also because the instructions are very clear. The car seat is also really light, which makes moving it from car to car a breeze.
The other obvious advantage of the Kiddy Infinity Pro is its safety benefits. The impact protection shield greatly reduces the damage that can be done to your child’s head and neck in the event of a collision, the side impact protection offered is impressive and the deep side wings help to make the seat really comfy.
Adjusting the seat to fit your baby as he grows is really simple. The headrest is very easy to lift up and down with the handle on the back, and the cushion for smaller babies just pops in and out of the seat as and when you need it.
The car seat looks good –stylish and expensive looking! The fabric is a kind of mock suede that wipes clean very easily, and is really nice and soft for my son to sit in.
What to watch out for
My son is 18 months – the stroppy toddler phase - and to begin with he wasn’t happy about having the impact shield across his body. It’s pretty big, and even on my large child it comes up to under his armpits, which he found quite restrictive. If he’d had this seat from 9 months, and got used to it early on, it wouldn’t have been an issue. But while you can hold a writhing child into a normal seat and clip the 5-point harness on, it’s pretty much impossible to get the Infinity’s shield on if a strong toddler is determined to shove it away. The attached toys helped, and the fact that it makes a convenient shelf to drive toy cars along eventually won the day, but on more than one occasion early on we had to give up and put his old car seat back in the vehicle.
One minor disadvantage is that you can’t recline the Kiddy Infinity Pro once it’s in use. However I find that Jamie’s happy to sleep with it in the upright position.

It’s easy to see that a lot of thought has gone into making the Kiddy Infinity Pro car seat a really safe and comfortable option. Its lightness and portability are a major selling point, but the fact that it’s so different to anything else around may put some parents off, and even be a problem for more assertive toddlers. However, its differences are there for a reason and if you start using it from the 9-month mark, you may avoid any possible toddler resistance.
