There is a lot to like about this seat but there's an annoying flaw
There is a lot to like about this seat. It's easy to install as you don't have to thread the seatbelt through any holes or gaps. And it can be secured very, very tightly once you have the knack (which involves tensioning the seat belt before pushing the clips at the top down). The best bit is that the straps are cleverly held out of the way making it very easy to put your little one in. It's very durable - ours is going on to the third child now and it still looks good. It seems a very safe seat.
It doesn't tip back as far as other seats but this hasn't been a problem for us. It can be cleaned as everything comes off but this is quite a task and you do need to be concentrate when putting it all back together to get it right.
I think they may have changed the design of the bit that you pull to tighten the straps but with ours, from 2007, you need to pull the strap straight out and slightly down so the strap stays flat and doesn't jam the mechanism. Again, once you have the knack it's not a problem at all.
And now the annoying flaw: the seat belt buckles have a tiny 'tooth' to help you align/join them before slotting them in the clasp bit of the seat belt mechanism. This tooth is perfectly sized to catch in knitwear and in the process of reaching into the car to pull the child out it is very easy to rip a chunk out of the jumper the child is wearing (or you are wearing). We badly damaged 6 jumpers (some lovely cashmere ones worth as much as the seat) before I took a small metal file to the tooth and removed it. Once I filed this bit off we've had no problems at all and no more trips to the invisible menders. I'm sure there must be countless other ruined jumpers around the country and would urge Maxi Cosi to change the design of the buckle.
I would recommend this seat as it's so easy and quick to secure in the car, and easy and quick to secure your little one in it. But I'd also recommend filing off the jumper eating tooth.
