In a nutshell

This durable Moses basket scores high in the style stakes rather than in practicality - one for the designer nursery

Pros

  • Looks stunning, machine washable fabrics, decent length basket

Cons

  • Pricey, stand is fiddly to build, quite bulky so takes up a fair amount of room, handles not quite long enough

izziwotnot’s Kaleidoscope White Wicker Moses Basket with stand makes for a beautiful piece of nursery furniture, however it’s not cheap and does have a few shortcomings.

izziwotnot, a Manchester based company, has a range of Moses baskets, nursery furniture and bedding (including mattresses) to its name. izziwotnot says it specialises in luxury Moses baskets, with quality, firm foam mattresses that confirm to the British Standards. The dressings are 100% cotton and are machine washable.

With the Kaleidoscope, you have a choice of getting a wicker basket in dark, natural or white (which I tried). You also can selected for the actual Kaleidoscope bedding to be “bleu”, “noir” (the colourway I tested), or “rouge”.

You can purchase the izziwotnot Moses basket stand separately (around £25 to £30 of the total price), though some places include it as a package. Izziwotnot actually produce two stands – one to fit the wicker Moses baskets and one to fit the maize Moses baskets. Both conform to the British Standards, fold flat for convenient storage and come in three finishes - mahogany, natural pine or solid white.

What we love

I love the look of the izziwotnot Kaleidoscope White Wicker Moses Basket in the Noir option. The funky, modern fabric print and classy design of the Moses basket stand really do make it stand out from your run-of-the-mill Moses baskets with the trestle-style stand. The black and white colour combo is also quite a departure from traditional nursery furniture but I really like it and it fits in well with our bedroom décor.

Niamh was a big baby, and long too, at 54cm, but she looks like she has plenty of room in this Moses basket, so it will hopefully accommodate her until she’s around 3 or 4 months old. She looks perfectly comfortable in there, and snuffles away happily to herself when we put her down in it.

The basket liner also feels nicely padded and washes well, as we found out after a couple of projectile vomit incidents.

The izziwotnot Kaleidoscope White Wicker Moses Basket feels sturdy and doesn’t look like it will ‘bow’ at the sides after a while as some of the cheaper options tend to do.

What to watch out for

The izziwotnot Kaleidoscope White Wicker Moses Basket costs double what a standard wicker Moses basket, and getting the Moses basket stand adds to the price. It is a real investment for potentially only a few months’ use.

Another minor irritation is that the leather handles, whilst looking rather cool, are just a wee bit too short to grab one-handed, as is usually the way one has to do things when there’s a newborn in the house.

Most Moses baskets have a simple trestle-style stand that you simply open up and rest the basket on top. This Moses basket stand required proper assembly and we actually had to look at the instructions in order to do it. It only took about 15 minutes to assemble but it was pretty fiddly, which again, I found off-putting.

Lastly, it’s a great height for if you’re using it for daytime for naps, but it’s just that little bit too tall to enable me to transfer my baby in and out of it easily for feeds at night without having to get out of bed myself!

Who is the izziwotnot Kaleidoscope White Wicker Moses Basket and stand best for?

Mums happy to invest in super-stylish newborn nursery furniture.

MadeForMums verdict

The izziwotnot Kaleidoscope White Wicker Moses Basket is a gorgeous looking Moses basket, but that beauty does come with a pretty steep price tag. Once the stand is built, the whole combo is a great package that should last for a few children, if you can overlook the minor irritations.
