Lindam launched this new digital video monitor offering a “safe and stylish solution” and “peace of mind” for parents. It has a 150m range, infrared night vision, nightlight, five lullabies, 2.36-inch colour LCD monitor, LED sound indicators, a parent unit that’s portable and rechargeable and the camera can be mounted on the wall or on a shelf.
It certainly looks as though Lindam almost hit the nail on the head with the Clarity Digital Video Monitor – although the price is fairly high. It’s worth remembering you can pick this monitor up for less than the RRP - I’ve spotted in online for just over £100.
What we love
Setting up the Lindam Clarity Digital Video Monitor is child's play. Literally in our case as Cormac’s big brothers, Ally, 10, and Rowan, 7, had a ball zipping up and down stairs and hooting with laughter at the sound of their voices over the system.
Once set up – the cut-out in the camera stand fitted over the bar of Cormac’s cot – you just switch on and go. There’s no fussing with wavelengths or settings.
Once it’s up and running the picture – both in light and with the night vision mode – is surprisingly clear.
Cormac enjoyed the tunes the camera unit plays, but didn’t particularly find them soothing or restful, but then he’s a boy who’s easily distracted. The tunes also don’t fade away – if you turn them on, you have to remember to switch them off again once your baby is in the land of nod.
In the VOX mode the screen goes blank until your baby – or his brothers – makes a noise and it leaps back into life.
What to watch for
The speaker on the parent unit isn’t very loud. I couldn’t hear my noisy baby when I left the parent unit in the next room. And while the unit is portable and I could’ve taken it with me, it’s not that simple. It seemed to interfere with the wi-fi in my house, making it impossible to use near my computer. As working on the computer is what I do when Cormac’s asleep that was a bit of a problem for us.
The VOX mode seemed sensitive enough for our boy, but some parents online have felt it needed quite a bit of sound before it would activate.
If we’re being picky, the cable on the camera unit was a little short. You’d have to have a socket near your baby’s cot for it to work.
The unit also lacks a temperature gauge if you’re after total peace of mind.

Parents who want to watch their little darling round the clock.
The Lindam Clarity Digital Video Monitor is a good solid product that’s easy to set up, has some nifty features like VOX, and should last as long as you need it. However, if you’re a wi-fi household and want to work on your computer, you could find that even though the parent unit is portable, you won’t want it nearby.
