With so many baby monitors to choose from, making a decision about which to buy can be confusing. If you want a particularly good monitor with a clear image, most functions you’ll need and a nifty little remote camera thrown in, then the Motorola Video Baby Monitor MBP 36 is a great choice, and a very smart choice if you have twins or children sharing a room.

Motorola Video Baby Monitor MBP 36 is a digital monitor. Boasting a large 3.5-inch LCD colour screen, you can see your baby perfectly. If your baby moves around, it’s not a problem. The spherical camera can pan, tilt and zoom its way around your baby’s cot remotely so there’s no need for you to leave the comfort of your sofa.

There’s also an array of handy functions you’d hope most good monitors would have - infrared night vision, two-way communication, ability to have more than one camera, room temperature, lullabies, LED alerts for noise levels, 200m range with ‘out of range’ warnings and a rechargeable battery.

What we love

I’m not a mum who loves gadgets, but even I’m excited about the camera on the Motorola Video Monitor MBP 36. Before I even put it in my daughter Heidi’s room, I watched myself on the screen as I used the up, down and sideways keys to move the camera remotely. Watching the little spherical camera whizzing around to catch anything I wanted it to felt quite thrilling. I know - I need to get out more!

I then tested the camera in Heidi’s room and I have to say it works brilliantly. I can even pan around the room, not that I have any need to, but if you have twins or children sharing a room this function is genius as it is more than capable of spanning a wide area if angled correctly.

The image is crystal clear in daylight and the infrared night vision works very well during the evening.

The Motorola Video Baby Monitor MBP 36 may not look quite as stylish as some of the Samsung offerings, but it is pretty close, and the CCTV-type camera looks great.

Apart from putting the rechargeable battery in and making sure I had the right wires in place, the monitor is simple to set up and easy to use. The buttons are all self-explanatory but if there are any problems the instruction leaflet is easy to follow.

The leaflet states that you might have to turn certain electrical products off due to interference but I’ve had no trouble with this at all. The picture and sound were perfect and in the time I’ve used it, I haven’t lost connection at all, which after all is one of the most important things when using a baby monitor.

The two-way communication is loud and clear, and the microphone is very sensitive - a good thing if you want to hear every noise your baby makes. I’m suitably impressed with it.

What to watch out for

When the volume is turned up even half way, the white noise can be quite loud, but you can still hear your baby even when the volume is low.

The Motorola Video Baby Monitor MBP 36 is quite expensive considering it doesn’t have some features others have for the same price, such as an SD recording function, but it works so well I would certainly overlook this.

If I’m being picky, the lullabies are a bit tinny-sounding but I don’t think that’s too much of a problem for tiny ears.

Who is the Motorola Video Baby Monitor MBP 36 best for?

Parents with twins or children sharing a room, and those who want a good solid video monitor with the reassurance of a trusted brand

MadeForMums verdict

A great baby video monitor from a trusted brand, the Motorola Video Baby Monitor MBP 36 has everything you’d expect from a good video monitor and a little extra in the way of a nifty camera that can pan, tilt and zoom its way round your baby’s cot, or room if you have twins. It looks quite stylish and the image is very clear. It can be a little noisy with the volume up but overall it is such a great monitor this can be forgiven.
