Pros

  • Good value, doubles as a playpen, suitable for newborns, can be folded with bassinette still in place

Cons

  • Low to the floor, not especially cosy

The Roomo2 travel cot from Oomo is more than just a travel cot. Doubling up as a playpen, this little number offers great value for money while being easy to assemble and suitable from birth.

Staying away from home isn’t easy when you’ve got a baby in tow, especially when you drive a mini. Thankfully, the light and compact Oomo Roomo2 squeezed into our tiny car easily and once we arrived at our destination – the in-laws – it was up in a matter of minutes.

The bassinette simply zips on so babies, like my 10-week-old Rosie, can sleep comfortably without being too low down. I thought this was absolutely brilliant, however, once she’s 3 months (or able to roll over), it’s down to the bottom of the cot, which I won’t be so keen on.

What we love

The Oomo Roomo2 has a very similar design to the award winning Roomo (which doesn’t have a bassinette but still managed to win the BPA Baby Must Have Product of the Year) and it looks great. Available in either Black Lush or Bright Sparks (a grey and turquoise option), it’s modern and stylish without being too posy.

The speed and ease of putting the Oomo Roomo2 up and taking it down is fantastic. Even my husband – who NEVER reads the instructions – got it up in about five minutes, which saves a headache and an argument when you arrive at your destination late and sleepy.

It’s the lightest bassinette travel cot on the market, weighing in at just over 9kg, and although that doesn’t seem like a major selling point, on those occasions when you’re carting all of your baby paraphernalia up and down stairs without a strapping bloke to help, it’s definitely a plus point.

At £83.18, the Roomo2 competes well against the more sturdy, higher end travel cots but one of the best features for me is that it doubles up as a playpen. They can be pretty expensive on their own, so this double-use makes your money go an awful long way.

What to watch out for

Once you’ve mastered which way the bassinette zips on, the only downside I found to the Oomo Roomo2 is the comfort factor. The mattress is fairly sturdy and although Rosie sleeps on it without a whinge, I decided to fold a full size adult duvet over the top, which makes it cosier, and will also resolve the height issue once she’s too big for the bassinette.

Who is the Oomo Roomo2 travel cot best for?

New mums who don’t want to be housebound by their beloved baby.

MadeForMums verdict

The Oomo Roomo2 is a stylish travel cot that’s light, easy to assemble and good value, especially if you’re planning on buying a playpen. As a newborn, your baby can easily come with you on holiday or to visit friends and family. However, it could feel a touch big if you have a small 3-6 month old baby who’s outgrown the bassinette. Once your baby’s started to crawl about, you can happily pop her inside with a couple of toys and crack on with the household chores.
