Pros

  • Optional handles, measurements for milk, non-leak spout, compact size, lid will fit AVENT bottles

Cons

  • May be too small for an everyday cup for bigger toddlers, snap-on lid is likely to get lost.

The AVENT Magic Cup offers an easy transition from bottle to cup for younger toddlers, with the added bonus of a leak-free valve.

AVENT is a tried-and-trusted name to most mums, who will probably have sampled the company's wares in the form of bottles, teats or soothers at some point. And the AVENT Magic Cup carries that legacy on, with the rather useful 'Magic Value' feature for spill-proof drinking.

What we love

The top of the cup, which has AVENT's 'Magic Valve', can fit onto AVENT bottles, so if for some reason the cup is not available, or in the dishwasher, the top can still be used. You could even use the lid on one of the AVENT bottles to start with if your toddler's really resisting the move from a bottle to a cup.

The AVENT Magic Cup also has two handles that slot on over the rim of the cup before you screw on the lid. The handles are an optional extra and are useful if your child finds gripping a bottle or cup a little tricky. But they can be left off if your child's confident in cup holding.

The Magic Cup is smaller than many other toddler cups - and Arron, 3, liked that, as it is easy to carry and hold.

One other bonus for mums of younger toddlers is that, like AVENT bottles, the Magic Cup has measurements on the outside - useful if you're trying to keep an eye on how much milk your toddler's drinking.

The AVENT Magic Cup is easy to clean.

What to watch out for

The cup is not that big, so if you're off out for the day, you'll need to refill it.

The spout is fixed in position, so can't be folded over or tucked out of the way. A plastic snap-on lid is provided, but if you're like me this might soon get lost.

The spout is also very hard, so if you have a fidget who tends to throw their cup or wave it around (or even - though I know they shouldn't - walk about when they've got the cup in their mouth) this could be a concern.

One word of warning - don't use the cup to mix up formula or follow-on milk. You're likely to clog up the magic valve, which won't be quite so magic any more - and end up with a leaky cup in your bag.

Who is AVENT Magic Cup best for?

Mums getting their 12-month-olds to move from bottle to cup.
