A portable, comfy seat, the Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS is a good option for travelling families, but is just as handy when at home, for meals and for play.

Prince Lionheart started in the early 1970s in a garage, but now is a bit flasher than that, specialise in baby, nursery and safety products. The bébéPOD PLUS was introduced to the range in 2007 to replace the bébéPOD. The PLUS features a detachable pommel that you can swap for an adjustable feeding tray. Prince Lionheart also do the boosterPOD, which is suited to tots over 12 months.

Before your baby can sit up unaided, or afterwards when you need somewhere comfortable to sit him to play once he is on the move, the Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS provides a supportive, colourful booster seat.

Why we love it

Comfortable baby seating that will keep my 6-month-old twins, Jonah and Zachary, quiet, safe and amused is a must in my busy house with four little boys to take care of. We have a huge collection of bouncy chairs, swings and mats dotted around the house and the award-winning Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS was a welcome addition.

Moulded from soft, polyurethane foam ours are bright orange, though you can also get them in green or red. They are a similar shape to a highchair seat, with a high back support and two leg openings to keep your baby secure and supported while he sits. This version also comes with straps, which gave me extra peace of mind as my twins are still very wobbly and can’t sit up on their own.

Being able to swap the pommel for an adjustable feeding tray is great for mealtimes or when you want to give your baby a comfortable place to sit and play with toys. There’s even an attachable Sassy toy included in the pack, which fascinated the twins.

Although my twins aren’t quite able to sit up unaided the Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS provided plenty of support and they enjoyed the new perspective sitting upright gave them. Although at just 6 months they couldn’t last long in this position and after about 10-15 minutes started to fuss and cry. But as they get older they should be able to sit up for longer.

The Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS is very easy to keep clean, and can be used both indoors and outdoors, which is a bonus as many of our other seats aren’t ideal in the garden. It would also be great to take on holiday to give baby somewhere to sit on the beach to eat and play.

What to watch out for

The Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS is meant to be suitable up to 14 months, or 10kg, however my babies found it quite a tight fit at just six months, and I doubt that they’ll still be able to sit in them at 14 months. This is particularly evident when you attach the feeding tray, because although it’s adjustable it still makes fitting your baby into the seat quite a squeeze.

The feeding tray comes with two place mats, but these lasted seconds in the hands of the twins who instantly had them off the trays and onto the floor. The problem is that the grooves that hold the Sassy toy in place on the tray will soon become clogged with grime if you feed or allow messy play without these mats, so it would have been better to have a way to attach the placemats so the babies couldn’t remove them.

Swapping over the pommel and tray is simple, but the mechanism did seem a little flimsy and I wondered how well it would last.

Who is the Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS best for?

Smaller babies just beginning to sit unaided or for easy-to-clean travel seating

MadeForMums verdict

While it has some minor flaws the Prince Lionheart bébéPOD PLUS offers babies a comfy place to sit and get a new view of the world, and can also be a place for meals. However, it may not last as long as Prince Lionheart claims unless your child is very small and slim.
