The Safety 1st Basic Booster is a great value, sturdy booster seat that’s both easy to clean and store.

The Safety 1st Basic Booster is a rigid plastic booster seat that attaches underneath an adult chair seat with a strap and clip. There are rubberised edges to the bottom of the booster to keep it secure on the chair. Your little one is then held in place with a 3-point harness.

The booster can be used with tots from 6 months until they weigh 22kg, so you could skip having a highchair altogether to save on space (and cost). The booster comes in turquoise blue and pink.

What we love

I’ve been using two of these Safety 1st Basic Boosters for both my toddlers for well over 18 months now, so have really put them through their paces. The booster is easy to clean and there are very few tricky nooks and crannies to scrape out compared with a more traditional highchair.

The booster comes with a high back, so even the smaller babies feel secure in it – I moved Peter into his at quite a young age so that we could put away the highchair and feel more ‘together’ sitting around the kitchen table.

I’ve found that it also lasts your child a long time – Lucy was in hers from aged 2 to 3½ – by the end just climbing into it by herself to give herself some extra height and not bothering with the harness.

It’s also very neat and lightweight, so easy to transport to other people’s houses or to keep stashed away as a useful spare for visiting toddlers.

But the bottom line is that this is a great value seat at only RRP £11.74.

What to watch out for

The rubber feet inevitably fall off the base of the Safety 1st Basic Booster – it doesn’t seem to make a difference to the stability of the seat though.

It can also be quite fiddly to feed the strap through the groin loop (the part of the harness that goes in between their legs). So most of the time, I ended up just using the harness as a belt around Peter and Lucy’s middles – rather than as a 3-point harness as intended. They still seemed very secure despite this.

Who is the Safety 1st Basic Booster best for?

Families after a sturdy, supportive highchair alternative that lets little ones sit with them at the table.

MadeForMums Verdict

Overall, the Safety 1st Basic Booster is a good value, strong and sturdy booster. It’s supportive enough to be used at all meal times, although the harness can be a little fiddly, this doesn’t detract from the overall product.
