A bottle that cleans itself. Sounds to good to be true, doesn’t it? But MAM has created one, called the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle, and it has more to offer than easy microwave steam sterilisation.
MAM was started in Austria in the 1970s and the brand is now sold in over 30 countries around the world. From the beginning, MAM’s vision was to combine medical know-how with design. One of the new additions to the range is the innovative, self-sterilising MAM Anti-Colic Bottle. As well as being self-sterilising, it also claims to reduce colic by 80%. The soft silky silicone teat is also aimed at making switching between breast and bottle easier.
Being a breastfeeding mum, the whole world of bottles that need sterilising seem like rocket science to me, so for someone to introduce a bottle that sterilises itself is a giant tick in my book! To get started, all I needed was a microwave and water and apparently in three easy steps and in 3 minutes the bottle is sterilised.
Price wise, the single 130ml size is £4.29, a 3-pack of the 160ml size is £12.49, a single 260ml size is £4.79 and a 3-pack of this size is £13.99.
What we love
The MAM Anti-Colic Bottle really is easy to use. To use the self-sterilising function you simply follow the three steps: fill the base with cool water using the measuring cap provided, place the bottle components on top of the base and heat in the microwave for 3 minutes. I couldn’t believe that it would be that easy to use but it really was.
As well as the self-sterilising function the bottle also has a vented base, which is the ‘anti-colic’ part. The ventilation holes regulate the pressure and the amount of air swallowed by your baby. Oscar really found it easy to feed with this bottle and being a baby who isn’t used to a bottle, the milk flowed evenly so there was no gagging and spluttering.
As well as these two great functions, the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle is also BPA free, has a silk teat so its silky soft for your baby, comes in a variety of colours and sizes, and is easy to clean.
What to watch out for
With so many good points it hard to find something wrong with the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle. For a design-aware company I think the design of the actual bottle lets it down. It’s quite bulky with a really chunky base and it can be hard for little hands to grasp onto whilst feeding. That said, some parents will find that slightly different shape modern and appealing.
Who is the MAM Anti-Colic Bottle best for?
Mums who want no-fuss quick sterilising, especially when away from home.
MadeForMums verdict
The MAM Anti-Colic Bottle really does make sterilisation quick and easy. The silky teat and anti-colic features make it easy for a baby to feed from, and the fact that it’s BPA-free is also reassuring. All you need to do is make sure there’s a microwave at your destination if you plan to travel with this bottle as your all-in-one bit of feeding kit.
