Pros Stylish, incredibly easy to clean, will last until your child is tall enough to sit on an adult chair, tray can be removed with one hand, adjustable height and footrest Cons Big investment, no fold or recline functions Compare deals from top retailers MadeForMums Preferred Partner Our review The OXO Tot Sprout highchair is a thing of style and beauty, a highchair that converts into a child dining chair and that’s so beautifully made it deserves to be called a piece of furniture. With wooden legs and a superbly designed plastic seat and tray, this highchair is a real find. OXO, the American brand famed for its universal design philosophy and clever range of kitchen tools, has recently launching OXO Tot – a new design-led collection of baby equipment. The feeding and weaning range includes the newly launched OXO Tot Sprout highchair. Suitable from 6 months to 5 years, the Sprout features an adjustable height seat with smooth EVA foam cushions, 5-point harness, removable crotch post and tray, and solid wood legs. The Sprout comes in a choice of three trend-led colours, taupe, orange and green, with a birch or walnut woode finish. The Sprout is easily converted into a child’s dinning chair as he or she grows, with a few minor adjustments. The seat is lowered to its lowest setting and the crotch post removed with a Phillips head screwdriver. A new seat pad, which is included, replaces the infant seat pad, and the tray and straps removed so your growing child can sit at the table. What we love The Sprout highchair features a streamline, smooth design to prevent food and debris from becoming trapped, making it extremely simple to clean. The surface of the Sprout is super easy to wipe clean, and best of all you can entirely remove the seat unit with just a few clicks. Simply carry the seat unit over to the sink to brush away excess food and wipe clean. The OXO Tot Sprout highchair is truly a thing of beauty. We tried out the taupe/birch colourway because the chic green and walnut combo was currently sold out – a testament to the Sprout’s popularity and design quality. But in all colours, the OXO Tot Sprout highchair has a designer quality that could grace even the trendiest of kitchens or dining rooms. The fact that you can convert this to a higher child’s dining chair is brilliant, giving your young child the correct posture at the dinner table. It also gives them a truly comfy dining chair that puts them at the right height - no more kneeling on an adult chair or squirming around at the dinner table (my pet hate!). The base and legs are very sturdy – Freya loves to throw herself around at mealtimes in a bid to make her older brothers laugh and she didn’t even make it wobble. Equally, with six of us around our dining table there isn’t a lot of space so it’s great that the footprint is compact, taking up just 0.24m squared. The tray on the OXO Tot Sprout can be removed with one hand – something I found increasingly useful as Freya started getting in more of a mess as she learnt to feed herself. One hand to remove the tray, one to start wiping the baby! This is a truly wipe-clean highchair – I have used many and this is definitely the easiest I have come across. Removable seat pads, which wipe down so easily, mean no stuck food and the removable seat makes it easy to remove the pieces Freya appears to have been storing for later! What to watch out for The Sprout has no recline, so it’s not ideal for first weaning if your baby is still floppy when sitting up. Although the Sprout has a very small footprint it doesn’t fold up, and is heavy so not for those who need their highchair to be in anyway portable. You can’t use this as a baby seat without the tray. Freya is used to sitting up to the table and when I removed the tray the seat post got in the way with our table, meaning she had to have the tray attached and sit a little further away from her audience. Who is the OXO Tot Sprout highchair best for? Design-savvy parents after a practical highchair that’s so chic it counts as a true piece of furniture. MadeForMums verdict The OXO Tot Sprout highchair is a well-designed highchair that’s got substance to match its bags of style. The ease of cleaning, the compact footprint and the ability to work up to the age of 5 make this a winner. It’s sturdy, but can’t be folded away, so it’s not for those after an option they can hide. But with its trendy looks and price tag, you'll want to get your money's worth by keeping it out on display. First reviewed 25/11/2010. Updated 23/02/2012.
