Compact, fits two bottles plus a couple of dummies/teethers, easy to clean, can be used in microwave or for cold water sterilising

Can only get two bottles in

Compact and able to be used as a microwave or cold water steriliser, the Tesco Travel Steriliser is worth adding to your packing list.

If your family is anything like my brood and I, you probably resemble a packhorse for just one night’s stay at your mother-in-law’s. And if that’s the case, it’s time to invest in the rather fantastic Tesco Travel Steriliser.

When my daughter Mia was a few months old we braved the dreaded ‘night away’. We weren’t scared at leaving home or how my very patient parents might cope with a screaming baby in the middle of the night – we were more concerned about the unbelievable amount of stuff that we had to take with us. Bags and bags of baby bumf, and then to top it all, a giant steam steriliser.

A last minute trip to Tesco was my saviour. There I spotted their rather natty compact travel steriliser, the perfect size for two bottles and Mia’s ever present dummy. It’s about the size of a lunchbox so I knew at a squeeze it would even fit in my changing bag. It also introduced me to the world of microwave steriliser, and shortly after buying my trusty travel steriliser I abandoned my giant steam one forever.

What we love

Not being the most technically minded of people I was a little nervous at operating the new gadget but it couldn’t have been easier - just a little water in the bottom, pop the bottles in and 5-8 minutes later, bingo, sterilised bottles straight out the microwave.

You can even use the Tesco Travel Steriliser for cold water sterilisation if you don’t have a microwave - perfect if you’re on holiday abroad or camping. And because it’s just one lunchbox-type rectangle it’s incredibly easy to clean, no fiddly bits and no scrubbing required. I’ve still got the one I bought nearly three years ago and it looks like new.

I’d tried different travel options, like one-use bottles and just found them expensive and faffy. The Tesco Travel Steriliser is the inexpensive, no-brainer option that means you don’t have to worry about nasty germs getting into your little one - apart from when they escape and start licking the floor…or is that just mine?

What to watch out for

The only downside to this great little product is that you can’t fit more than two bottles in, but after all it’s a travel steriliser. However, if you’re in the early stages, sterilising lots of bottles and are thinking of having the Tesco Travel Steriliser at home to save space then it’s maybe not the best option.

Who is the Tesco Travel Steriliser best for?

Travelling families in need of a finance-friendly space-saving option

MadeForMums verdict

The Tesco Travel steriliser looks like a lunch-box, is small enough to fit in your changing bag and is perfect for keeping nasty germs away on holiday or while travelling. And at less than £5, it’s probably one of the cheaper bits of baby kit you’ll ever own. However, if you want to sterilise more than two bottles at once, this isn’t your ideal option.
