I’m always up for cutting back here, there and everywhere to make ends meet a little easier, but I never thought I’d be scrimping on nappies. I’ve tried a few bargain brands but to be honest, I never thought they came up to scratch – until now. When I tried Aldi’s Mamia Ultra Dry nappies, I was pleasantly surprised.

What we love

Ripping open the packet to reveal my first Aldi Mamia Ultra Dry nappy took me by surprise. I lifted one out, felt it, flipped it around, stretched it out and raised my eyebrows.

Aldi Mamia Ultra Dry are really rather similar to Huggies. They’re just about as soft, lovely and sticky (the pads that is, not the rest of the nappy!) and the turquoise rabbit design even gets the thumbs up, too.

I happily put my 10-month-old daughter Rosie in the first one but secretly thought the performance would let me down. I mean, how good can an 11p disposable be?

But nappy change after nappy change, day after day, the Mamia Ultra Dry were performing as well as any other nappies I’ve ever used. Even on 12-hour night-time duty, the Aldi Mamia Ultra Dry nappies absorbed everything, didn’t feel too full and left Rosie clean and dry without any hints of nappy rash. I can’t quite believe it!

Obviously the most brilliant thing about these nappies is the price. They are £5.49 for 50 Maxi or 44 Junior or £5.19 for 56 Midi. An absolute steal!

What to watch out for

There isn’t an awful lot to dislike about these Aldi nappies really. The packaging isn’t very nice and it does look cheap [see image gallery for the old style pack reviewed], but if, like me, you have a nappy stacker to store your disposables in, the packet only comes in through the front door, heads up the stairs and goes straight into the bin anyway.

The design on the actual nappy obviously isn’t Disney but it’s just as pretty (if not prettier) than the ones used on Pampers.

The only other downside is that they’re from Aldi, which isn’t on every high street. My nearest one is a long way from me unfortunately, or else I’d be buying them up every week.

Who are Aldi Mamia Ultra Dry nappies best for?

Mums who want performance as well as a good price, without being too proud to step away from the big-name brands.

MadeForMums verdict

Aldi Mamia Ultra Dry nappies will surprise you, if you’re not used to heading away from the big name nappy brands. They offer comfort and top-notch absorbency, minus the price. Definitely worth a shot, for day or night-time use.
