It’s almost become an obsession, finding a nappy that keeps our baby girl’s deposits from going north of her nappy. So many brands, so many promises. I was initially a little sceptical about a supermarket brand but Sainsbury’s little ones dry nappies come pretty close to living up to their promise of being a nappy you can count on. They are extra absorbent (music to any parent’s ears) and didn’t leak. A pack of 38 in the midi size will set you back just £3.89.
What we love
Before you enter parenthood you imagine a nappy is a nappy – they all keep junior dry and comfy, right? Oh how wrong we were. We tried and tested several brands and found a huge variation in effectiveness.
There are the occasional times where only a full-piece body nappy will keep a poo explosion contained. The great thing about Sainsbury’s little ones dry nappies is that the padding goes right to the back keeping those ‘travelling poos’ within the nappy (most of the time). Isn’t it amazing how far some poos will go?
The ‘extra absorbent core’ locks the liquid away helping to keep our Edith’s nether regions dry and rash-free and our laundry working at a less frenetic pace.
The elasticated leg cuffs protect against pesky leaks that you don’t want to have to deal with in the wee hours of the morning. These Sainsbury’s little ones dry nappies were the midi size 3 for babies weighing between 9lb and 20lbs. Often, when you get to either end of these weights, nappies can be often too roomy or too tight but they fit 4-month-old Edith really well (she weighs 16lb).
What to watch out for
The fit across the front of the Sainsbury’s little ones dry nappies is not as snug as some other brands, despite promises that they are specially contoured.
The leafy design, while sweet (though at 4 months, I don’t think Edith even notices) might give the impression that these are eco nappies, which they aren’t. What’s with all these colours and pictures on disposables? They’re bad enough for the environment without adding to it with more dyes. You can also see the patterns through clothes.

No nappy is foolproof and while these are no exception, Sainsbury’s little ones dry are fairly consistent at keeping a baby dry. The absorbency offered keeps wetness away from skin, which can help prevent nappy rash. The padding goes right to the back to help contain most wayward poos, and the leg cuffs prevent leaks. While not as snug as some others, they are a good value purchase.
