Bambinex developed the Easy Comfort all-in-one nappies from an existing-sized nappy it was already selling. Bambinex wanted to offer a product that could be used from birth right up until potty training is about to start. A great idea in theory, but quite difficult to achieve in practice, as your baby's nappy needs when they’re first born are very different to when they’re walking around and you're trying to get them to the toilet on time.
What we love
At first sight I loved the vibrant, funky orange (nectarine) shade of the Bambinex Easy Comfort all-in-one nappies. They also come in lime, aqua, yellow and white. I think it’s quite eye-catching compared with some of the plainer nappies you can buy. They also felt extremely soft and luxurious.
The fact that they’re an all-in-one instead of a two-part system means the Easy Comfort are instantly less time-consuming than my usual type - I didn't have to make them up each day and they were very easy to put on.
There are two rows of poppers to make the nappy the right size and this is quite easy to adjust for Nathaniel's height even when he’s lying half in the nappy. The Velcro fastening at the very top makes it much easier to adjust to my son's waist size. There’s even a strip of Velcro on the front of one of the side tabs, so if your baby is very small or you want to start using the Easy Comforts from birth they will easily fit a slim frame.
Also, as an all-in-one there's no need to soak the Bambinex Easy Comfort after use (and bleaching is not advised). You simply pop the nappies in the washing machine or you can collect them in a dry, lidded bucket until you have a load. However, if you use the optional boosters you may want to soak these.
What to watch out for
At £13.99 each, Bambinex's Easy Comfort all-in-ones aren’t cheap and you’d need at least 20 to allow for a full day’s use while you wash the previous day's nappies and a couple of spares. However, they do last from birth to potty, so they wouldn't need replacing as your baby grows.
I was quite surprised that the nappies’ packaging didn't include instructions for use. The label on the nappy said 60 degrees, but it wasn't until I investigated further that I found out the nappies need washing three times before you use them.
When I washed the nappies prior to their first wear, I was amazed that they took almost a day to dry on a clothes airer inside, as I thought they were supposed to be fast-drying (and you can't always rely on the British weather to dry them outside on a clothes line). The Bambinex Easy Comfort all-in-ones can be put in a tumble dryer, although this isn't always an option, or the most energy-efficient choice.
Bambinex Easy Comfort all-in-ones are made from microfibre with a stay-dry fleece top liner, and are definitely built to be highly absorbent. However, on the first day and night every one of the nappies Nathaniel wore leaked. I triple checked that there were no gaps at the top of the nappy and that the gathered leg gussets were fitted correctly, but the leaks continued throughout the week and left me hot and bothered with all the washing. Even with the bamboo teddy booster in place Nathaniel, who is used to sleeping through the night, became grumpy as he kept waking up early to find himself lying in a wet patch. If you really wanted to use these at night-time I would suggest putting a pair of plastic pants over them.
