Its size also means you won't have support for your whole body, just your bump. Pros Small, compact, portable, supports bump so can help with back pain, could be used as a breastfeeding pillow Cons Slips out of position, cover hard to get back on, only suitable for later stages of pregnancy Our review The Medical Imports Pregna-Pillo claims to be “the most advanced pregnancy pillow available”. Designed to cradle your bump and relieve back pain in the later stages of pregnancy, its neat concave design allows you to rest, supported on your side. But with a short shelf life you might think twice about buying one. Unlike most other pregnancy pillows, the Pregna-Pillo is a medical product. It's approved by the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the UK (MHRA) as a medical device. As a result, it’s recommended by healthcare professionals. The wedge-like polyurethene foam pillow is small (35cm wide and 20cm long) and covered with a soft, machine-washable, zip-up 100% cotton cover. Additional covers are available to buy at £8.99 each, plus £1.50 for postage. The pillow itself is £24.99, plus £3.50 postage. The Pregna-Pillo also stops you from twisting forward when you are lying down, allowing your back and spine to stay straighter and in a ‘less stressed’ position. What we love The Pregna-Pillo is compact and portable, so you can take it anywhere. With a seven-month sized bump it made lying on the sofa (an increasing part of my routine) and falling asleep more comfortable. I don’t suffer from back pain so it’s hard to comment on its true effectiveness. What’s more, although it’s only recommended for the later stages of pregnancy, it can be use to support your baby when breastfeeding. What to watch out for Getting the Pregna-Pillo under my bump and in the right place was a bit of a struggle – it took me a few attempts each time to find the right place. And at night, whilst I may have fallen asleep with the Pregna-Pillo neatly tucked under my bump, by the first loo trip it was always on the floor having slipped out from under my great weight (how, I don’t know!). Unlike most pregnancy pillows, the Pregna-Pillo is small and it only supports your bump, not your whole body. As a result, rather than feel supported, I felt I was sleeping with my middle higher than the rest of my body, which became uncomfortable after a while. A feature of the pillow is stopping your spine rotating forward but what I really wanted was something that would stop my whole body from rolling forward, rather than just the bit where the bump was. I found my top half almost folding over the pillow when I was lying on my side. The washable cover is tricky to get back on in exactly the right place. And an additional cover really would push up the overall cost. Who is the Medical Imports Pregna-Pillo best for? Mums-to-be who need back support in the later stages of pregnancy. MadeForMums verdict A supportive pillow that should help you get a comfortable night’s sleep in the last few months before your baby arrives. Compact and portable the Pregna-Pillo is a useful tool if you suffer from back pain, or just need some extra support for your growing bump.
