The seat reclines in three positions by lifting and gently pulling down a bar at the back. To raise it simply push it back up with your hand, which is so easy it deserves a round of applause. It also has a sturdy hood that can be extended to wrap around the seat in the fully reclined position.
It comes as a three- or four-wheel pushchair and is compatible with the award-winning Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix car seat. You can also buy a washable soft cot which folds down flat, or a carrycot, to make it suitable for newborns.
What we love
“Wow, what a cool buggy,” has been the reaction of people when I turn up with the Maxi-Cosi Mura. The overall quality and design of this buggy is superb; not just in the way it looks but in the fact that everything clicks so easily and effortlessly into place. It all fits together like a perfect jigsaw, from the easy one-pull method to remove the seat to attaching the durable rain cover.
The sun canopy is robust and gives great coverage and the seat, soft and molded like memory foam, feels like the comfiest I’ve tested. It’s covered in super-soft padding – Elsie looked like she was cruising around in an armchair – and has a three-point harness and a detachable T-bar in the middle for extra security.
Underneath the buggy is a reasonable-sized shopping basket with a pocket at the front containing its own pump. Marked in red, the brake is also easy to apply and disengage.
Usefully, the buggy’s handle has three settings and can be adjusted by simply pressing a button. Moving from pavement to loose stones, it also glided across any terrain and was easy to push thanks to its front wheel, which swivels 360° and can be locked when going off road.
What to watch out for
Weighing nearly 17kgs, the Mura isn’t a light pushchair and you really feel it when you’re going up hill. But weight isn’t a huge issue as it hugs the ground on any terrain, so feels very sturdy. What is more of an issue is its size.
It does, however, have an overall bulky feel to it, especially when it comes to the wheelbase, which is very wide. Going through our front door (we have a tiny terrace cottage) was very tight - it only just made it. The basket is also a little on the small size and practically non-existent when the seat’s fully reclined.
Folding the buggy up is a bit of a pain, as it’s recommended that you remove the seat first. But once the seat is off, using the handle-based buttons, there’s a 'basic' fold, followed by a more compact fold if required, and the wheels can also be removed in a one-click movement for stowing in a smaller space, i.e. the boot of our car. It’s just quite a complicated process. It is possible to learn how to fold it with the seat on but it certainly took practice to master this and is so much easier when the seat is removed.

The Mura is a well-constructed, stylish pushchair that’s durable and versatile; with a carrycot and a forward or rear-facing seat, it’s all you need from birth to 4 years. Its overall quality and finish make it good value for money, as long as you can accept that your paintwork on your skirting boards will need retouching from time to time thanks to the wide wheel base.
