In a nutshell

A head-turning lightweight stroller, the Mee-Go Trio is comfy, easy to fold and compact, but it won't fit in all of the airlines' overhead compartments, so best to check...

Mee-Go is getting a real reputation for producing head-turning pushchairs that combine style with great value, and the Trio adds to a stable that includes the luxurious Milano Travel System, Pramette, Glide travel system and super lightweight Feather stroller.

The British brand may only have launched in 2012, but its products have already won a raft of awards, including two MadeForMums Awards in 2017, while the Trio scooped gold in the best lightweight buggy category in the Junior Design Awards 2017.

It’s easy to see why, with its gorgeous rose gold or gun metal frame, topped off with a seat in either orchid, slate blue, or jet black.

And, at £165, it’s comparable to other lightweight strollers such as the Peg Perego Pliko Mini (£150), the Recaro Easylife (£189), the Silver Cross Zest (£145) and the Red Kite Push Me Cube (£135).

In terms of being a lightweight pushchair, it’s also in the market with the 6.4kg Baby Jogger City Tour, which is pricier at £219.99 but a little more compact when folded.

Watch 5 things you need to know about the Mee-Go Trio

This buggy is sold on being lightweight, compact and perfect for travel, how does it compare to the other lightweight and non-lightweight buggies you’ve used?

The Mee-Go Trio is lightweight at 7kg, and does fold incredibly compactly, so would be great for taking away if you are travelling by train or car.

Most recently, I’ve been checking out the Britax Holiday stroller (£120), which is lighter at 5kg, but can only be used from 6 months, and has no recline. In that sense, the Mee-Go Trio is definitely more suitable for everyday use, so gives slightly better value.

I love the design of it, and that is certainly a feature that stands out compared to other lightweights in its class, like the Chicco Miinimo (around £180), which has a similar fold and is a smidge lighter at 6.2kg.

I do like that it looks more substantial than the 6.4kg Babyzen Yoyo 0+ (£375), and I also found it easier to fold than that dinky buggy, though the Yoyo is small enough to fit in the overhead compartment of an aeroplane.

Exactly how light is it?

The Mee-Go Trio weighs 7kg, which isn’t as light as some of the ultra lightweight pushchairs on the market, like the Joie Aire Lite (4.8kg), and Chicco OhLaLa (3.8kg).

But it’s certainly easy to lift, and when folded it’s a one-handed job to pick it up and carry it around.

How compact is it when unfolded and when folded?

When unfolded the Mee-Go Trio measures 46cm wide by 86cm in length, and is 104cm tall.

When folded, its size is 46cm by 57cm by 25cm, and it’s a neat boxy shape.

The nice thing about the Mee-Go Trio is that while it is compact – particularly when folded – it doesn’t feel like a second buggy.

It is larger than other compacts like the Babyzen Yoyo 0+, which is 52cm x 44cm x 18cm, and the Baby Jogger City Tour, which measures 55.8cm x 45.7cm x 25.4cm when folded.

The Red Kite Push Me Cube meanwhile is 53cm x 46cm x 32cm when folded.

It is definitely a very compact fold, but it is worth pointing out that while Mee-Go states the Trio “can be carried on most airlines to fit in the overhead compartment”, the folded dimensions are actually slightly too large to meet the carry on size for Easyjet and BA, which is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

Ryanair’s is smaller at 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, while it doesn’t meet United Airlines or Virgin’s carry on dimensions either.

What do you think of the fold system?

I loved the fold – it’s what Mee-Go calls its tri-fold system and it is unbelievably simple to do with one hand, though you probably have to be right-handed to do it!

To fold it:

Using your thumb, slide the button on the left side of the centre of the handlebar towards the left

Keeping your thumb pushing the button to the left, roll the centre of the handlebar away from you

Fold the top of the pushchair away from you

Push down on the partly-folded pushchair to fold down fully

Use the catch to lock the Mee-Go Trio closed

To unfold the Mee-Go Trio, undo the catch and holding the buggy by the handlebar, shake it out and make sure it is locked into place – so easy.

How easy is it to store?

It’s very easy to store as it folds down into a neat package that can be tucked away into most small spaces.

My only concern was that I didn’t want to scratch the stunning rose gold frame, so probably treated it a lot more kindly than I normally would with a pushchair!

What do you think of the seat size?

It’s a lovely spacious seat, and it was comfy both for my three-year-old daughter and my 11-month old niece.

It measures 32cm across the back, and 34cm across the front, and the depth is 20cm. The seat back height is 47cm.

Does it recline?

Yes, it does recline, using a toggle at the back of the seat. This isn’t my favourite type of recline as I find it a bit trickier to get the right angle than with the type that has a catch on the back or sides to recline.

Having said that, the toggle is easy to use and it does mean that you can tailor the exact recline you want, as the seat slides down the webbed tapes, rather than clicking into a specific position.

Why your newborn needs a lie flat buggy

Is the frame strong and durable?

Yes, the frame does seem very durable, and I like the chunkiness of it – all the parts felt robust and well-built.

What do you think of the handle bar?

The continuous handlebar makes the Mee-Go Trio especially easy to manoeuvre one-handed, and was a good height for me at 104cm. The downside for particularly tall parents is that it isn’t height adjustable.

How comfortable does it feel for your little one?

The Mee-Go Trio is a really comfy pushchair, as it’s well padded all around, and my three-year-old Zohra loved riding in it.

The padded (and removable) bumper bar was also a nice touch.

Equally, I tested out the pushchair with my 11-month-old niece, who had a great time using it. My sister fell in love with the buggy, so I guess my niece will be enjoying a lot more time in the Mee-Go Trio in future!

What do you think of the hood?

I loved the hood on the Mee-Go Trio, as it is huge! There are three main sections, which extend well over your little one when pulled out, plus there’s a zip out fourth panel, which is made of mesh to provide ventilation. I thought that was a great idea for air flow in summer, and another of the Trio’s neat little design features.

What are the basket and storage pockets like?

There’s a decent sized basket under the seat, which is easy to access from the front or back of the pushchair.

How easy is it to push?

It’s very easy to push and I really like that the Mee-Go Trio has a single continuous handlebar, as it means it can be used one-handed – a very useful feature!

Although the front wheels are swivel only, I didn’t have any issues with them getting stuck in awkward positions and it was smooth to push. I tried it with my 11-month-old niece and my three-year-old daughter and found it easy to push with either child in it.

How does it ride on different surfaces?

The Mee-Go Trio is great for pushing around town, and visiting parks, playgrounds and for trips out with the kids.

The wheels are a decent size, at 14cm diameter, but the front wheels are swivel only – so not ideal for rough surfaces, cobbles or mud.

The swivel does mean it’s incredibly manoeuvrable though, and I loved that it turned on a sixpence and could be pushed and turned one-handed.

Tell us about the brakes.

There is one foot brake, in between the back wheels, and I found it easy to flip on and off.

Does it fit in the boot of your car?

Yes – it’s compact and neat for fitting into the boot, along with plenty of space for other luggage and baby paraphernalia! We have a VW Golf and had loads of space left over – I imagine it would fit in even the smallest of boot spaces with room to spare.

What age child is it best for?

It is suitable from newborn to 3 years (15kg), but I probably would use it from a few months old, rather than from birth, as I would prefer more cocooning for a newborn.

Features like the removable bumper bar, adjustable leg rest and large seat mean that it is a great option to last a few years.

What’s in the box?

  • Mee-Go Trio stroller
  • Rain cover

Is it easy/hard to build the product?

Incredibly easy. It lifted out of the box ready assembled, and all I had to do was pop the raincover in the basket and we were ready to roll!

Who would the product be most useful for?

A family looking for a stylish, attractive buggy for a toddler that turns heads but doesn’t break the bank.

What is the price? Is this good value for money? Do you have to buy a lot of additional extras, which all add up or is everything included?

The Mee-Go Trio costs £165, which I think is great value considering it includes the rain cover and has features like the adjustable leg rest, huge hood, removable bumper bar and incredibly beautiful styling.

You can buy a travel bag for £39.99, which I think is probably worth investing in if you are going to take it on holiday – I definitely do not want to scratch the rose gold chassis, or have a baggage handler chucking it about!

MadeForMums verdict:

A gorgeous pushchair that is not just about the looks, but give you plenty of bang for relatively few bucks.

It’s sturdy as well as stylish, so should last a while, and has plenty of features to suit an urban family. Its light weight and compact fold means it’s a good travel option – but bear in mind you may have to put it in the airline hold, not carry it on board, if you plan to travel by air.
