The Britax Beep has everything you could want from a stroller. Just don't take it off-road.

Britax has been dealing with passenger safety for more than 40 years, so you’ve most likely heard its name before, especially when it comes to children’s car seats. It also has its own crash test facilities (the sort major motor manufacturers use), which is something that sets it apart from many other children’s car seat manufacturers. But Britax does more than car seats, and has a range of pushchairs worth checking out.

The Beep is a new lightweight 3-wheel stroller from Britax that’s suitable for use from birth and, used together with a Britax infant carrier, can easily be transformed to a travel system.

It features a multi-position seat recline (including the lie-flat position) and it can be adjusted while your baby is in the stroller, which is useful for making your baby more comfortable with the least disturbance. There's also a roomy rear hood pocket (which I use for the included raincover) and a shopping basket underneath.

What we love

Everything about the Britax Beep is easy: easy assembly, easy to fold and unfold, and effortless to push and steer. I found it a joy to use in that I didn't have to think about it at all.

It's lightweight without being flimsy and Joe, 3 months, was comfortable, lying flat and well shaded by the hood, with enough space on the seat for me to actually change his nappy without getting him out of the pram. The size of the seat also makes this stroller suitable for children up to age 4 (or 15kg), or for particularly tall younger children whose feet may drag on the ground in smaller strollers.

What to watch out for

The folding style takes a bit of getting used to. I found that it folded in the opposite direction to what I was expecting and ended up, basically, upside down with the handle at the bottom. This also made it a bit tricky to carry plus it won't stand up on its own. It's also pretty wide when folded, so if you've got a small car boot, make sure you check the measurements.

It's described as an ‘urban stroller’ and it really is only suitable for use on smooth surfaces. We struggled using it on rough ground with the front wheel refusing to attempt to negotiate even the smallest stone.

Who is the Britax Beep best for?

Urban mums after a versatile and long-lasting buggy.

MadeForMums verdict

Practical, functional and good-looking, the Britax Beep is a lightweight buggy that gives you the option of turning it into a travel system, too. A great mid-budget buy for those who are using it around town and have a reasonable size car boot.
