What do you get when you mix a German parenting products manufacturer and an outlandish American fashion designer?

You get the Cybex Callisto by Jeremy Scott pushchair of course!

Better known for making award-winning car seats, Cybex, never a brand to be bested when it comes to style, have collaborated with Scott, the cutting-edge designer, known for dressing the likes of Rihanna and Katy Perry.

According to Cybex the Stroller has been built for style and comfort and is as “loud and unique as he man who designed it.”

Jeremy himself describes the design as food fight, as it features pizza and other "fast-food classics” transformed into cute little characters.

The design could possibly be a put off to some, you’ll either love it or hate it, but in my opinion I love it.

Overall the German brand designs its products for “trend and quality-conscious parents,” so the collaboration with Scott is a perfect fit when you think about it. He confirmed in a recent interview that he created the buggy as something he could give as a gift to his friends – namely young mothers who struggle to find something that they feel is cool for their babies.

That probably explains why this pushchair has become a hit with many a celeb including Gwen Stefani, Amber Rose, and Fergie.

But it is not all about looks, as said earlier, Cybex is known to making car seats, for which the company regularly wins awards in safety and design.

Branching into the world of pushchairs with the Callisto stroller originally launched back in 2010, Cybex now has a fleet of prams to match its extensive car seat collection, including the highly-anticipated Priam.

Still this new Jeremy Scott version of the Callisto is the buggy that Cybex is best known for.

A lightweight travel system the buggy is suitable from birth, features a rotational suspension and a central one-pull safety harness.

How is assembling the Callisto by Jeremy Scott?

Getting the stroller up and running was really quick and not at all difficult despite the slightly confusing manual, which has the written instructions and diagrams in different sections of the booklet.

Fitting it together is easily a one-person job, but my partner and I did it together anyway, as that’s half the fun when you get a new buggy.

However, converting the stroller to the carrycot is more challenging and took about 20 minutes, as the instructions for this particular transition are not 100% clear.

Getting our heads around the instructions, we still found it a bit difficult to change from the seat to the carrycot as the buttons on the stroller were stiff and difficult to press, needing a bit of manpower – queue the other half.

Like most new things, once we mastered the knack of it, it got easier and now it doesn’t take long to switch between two.

Tell us about the buggy’s weight?

Weighing 8kg the Callisto is not the lightest buggy on the market, but it is by no means heavy, for instance, I find it easy to lift up and down curbs with my 11-month-old daughter resting in it.

It’s also reassuring to know that it can be used from birth up to a recommended weight of 17.5kg or four-years-old, one year more than most buggies.

Is it travel system compatible?

Yes it is, but here’s the catch - you can buy an equally eye-catching fast-food inspired carrycot for your newborn but you will have to fork out an extra £300!

And you can then team it up with any Cybex Aton child car seat to form a complete travel system, but as you may have guessed you will have to purchase the car seat separately.

Aton car seats start from £120, but if you want it match this fashionable stroller with the fashionable Jeremy Scott designed Aton car seat you will have to pay an extra £275.

So do you think it’s value for money?

Not at all, this is a lust-have and not a must have. The price is the Callisto’s main downfall, the complete travel system will cost you a whopping £1075!

But if you’re committed to kitting your baby with a designer buggy then price is probably not your major concern and you probably won’t find a more awesome buggy turning heads in your area.

How is it when out and about?

This stroller is a comfortable push, although it’s lightweight its remarkable suspension makes it a bump free ride for my little one, and I am able to maneuver through the city streets effortlessly, whilst my daughter sits relaxed and comfortable.

I really like the Cybex Callisto’s handlebar, as I find a single handlebar makes it easier to push with one hand.

Saying that, although it is adjustable, the handlebar can only be raised, not lowered and as I am a shorter person (5’2”) I feel the handle bar is a little too high for me.

On another downside, the breaks are really stiff, and for added reassurance I find myself checking several times that the breaks are on correctly.

How does it fold?

Folding down the Cybex is quick and easy, its light-frame allows it to be lifted and packed neatly, which is also convenient for slipping into car boots.

When I was shopping for other strollers I came across ones that, although advertised as easy to close, were not and in fact could use two people to put up and down. So I’m happy that whenever I want to go out I am able to fold this buggy by myself.

Is the stroller comfortable for your child?

Yes, the Cybex is easy to recline, using the one-handed recline toggle on the back of the seat means I can change the positioning quickly to suit my daughters needs.

A foam mattress is provided with the carrycot, and it has a soft and comforting feel, you can also add extra padding, this I like to do for my daughter, giving her that snug and secure feeling.

Can it be kept clean?

It can, the mattress cover is removable and also washing machine friendly, meaning it is easy to ensure the carrycot is always fresh and clean ready for your young one. All other materials on the stroller can be wiped clean.

What about storage?

Sadly the shopping basket provided is fairly small, hence I have to be careful not to get carried away whilst out shopping and the structure of the handle bar means I cannot position bags on the handles.

MadeForMums verdict?

Whether you’re out for leisurely strolls, or rushing around on the never-ending errands, the Cybex Callisto suits to every need. Providing warmth and comfort on every journey, my daughter loves to be in her stroller.
