Pros

  • Lightweight, compact, portable

Cons

  • Flimsy hood, doesn't lie as flat as some buggies that are designed for use from birth, handles aren't adjustable

Lightweight, compact and easy to use, the Graco U’go offers all you’d expect from an umbrella-fold buggy.

The most obvious differences between the U’go and other buggies of this type are the removable seat liner and the folding mechanism. This works well, although I was initially tripped up by the fact that there was no lever at the side to push down with my foot when I came to close it – what you do instead is turn the handle at the back, then pull a lever behind and it all collapses in true umbrella style.

The seat offers three shoulder strap positions and an adjustable legrest, plus five recline positions, operated via levers on either side. There’s the usual mesh basket underneath, and it locks closed, with a carry handle for ease of transport.

What we love

The seat liner is well padded so it’s cosy and comfortable for your baby, and the fact that it’s machine washable means it will stay looking smart - and you can use the buggy without it if the liner’s in the wash.

The dark navy with silver trim on the hood gives the U’go a smart look, perfect for city life.

The padding on the handles is nice and squashy to absorb the bumps from the pavement, and they’re angled for ergonomic comfort.

Its weight (or rather the lack of it) makes it easy to carry, helped of course by the carry handle, and it’s small enough to fit in the smallest of car boots.

It’s not expensive, so would also make a useful second buggy. The raincover and a particularly cosy cosytoes are included in the price, making it even better value.

What to watch out for

The hood is one of the flimsiest I’ve come across, and isn’t very big so offers little in the way of protection and no pockets (though it does have a mesh viewing/ventilation section under a flap on top).

The seat is not the widest around, and with the liner in place it seems even narrower, so might be a bit of a squeeze for a tubby toddler.

The handles aren’t adjustable, which may be a problem if you’re particularly tall or short.

The U’go doesn’t feel as sturdy as some other pushchairs of this type on the market, and as there’s no suspension, the ride will be a little on the bumpy side.

Although it claims to be suitable from birth the seat does not go especially flat, so I wouldn’t recommend it for newborns if you were planning on using it for prolonged periods of time during the day.

Who is the Graco U’go best for?

Mums on a budget or short on space looking for a second pushchair.

MadeForMums verdict

The Graco U’go is a fairly typical umbrella-fold buggy, but comes at a great price considering the accessories that are included. On the downside, it may be a tight fit for a toddler, and it feels quite flimsy, so would probably be more suitable for shorter trips or to keep at Grandma’s.
