The Micralite Fastfold Super-lite has to be one of the best lightweight buggies around – unique design, copes with the park and the pavement, and handles like a sports car.

Micralite is a British company and the Fastfold Super-lite is the latest addition to the collection, and it's quite simply superb. Right from the outset, it's impressive – a 2-minute fiddle and it's up and running straight from the box. It's extremely stylish – like a sports car compared to the usual dull stroller. It's practical too, and there are no gimmicks with the Micralite. And it's good value for money.

You can buy the Micralite Fastfold Superlite from Tesco or Amazon, if you want.

What we love

The design – so unique, yet so practical! Eyes of envy were really upon Jack and I as we made our way around London and the Lake District paths.

The Micralite Fastfold Super-lite handles like a dream and it's easy to push one-handed, even up onto a pavement. Because of the pneumatic rear wheels it also copes with cross-country in the park.

There is a foot pump included, so you don't need to befriend the local bike shop if you get a flat. Even the front wheels, which aren’t pneumatic, are well thought out and don’t skip about on the pavement like some other buggies. They also seem to be made of a more forgiving plastic than the usual design, so toddler Jack was always in for a comfy ride.

The footmuff, purchased separately, has been the subject of some thought. The zip is in the centre, as opposed to down the side, which means you can get your child in without trailing the footmuff on the floor. You just peel the sides back and stick 'em in. Jack, 18 months, loved it – once zipped up to the neck he was beautifully warm, even at -5 degrees! It's snug like a cocoon, and my son looked extremely cute in it, too.

Sleeping in the Micralite Fastfold Super-lite is also a dream as it reclines to almost horizontal. Jack was also happy when the buggy was upright as, unlike some, it is positioned at almost vertical, so he had a great view when out and about, although he was quite low down as the seat is fairly near to the ground.

The Super-lite can be used from birth upwards with the addition of a Micralite carrycot or the Maxi-Cosi Cabrio car seat. If your toddler is particularly broad-shouldered he or she might struggle to fit in the seat, as it's quite snug, however my toddler seemed to enjoy the security of being cocooned. From my perspective I likened Jack’s experience to a ride in a Maserati say, rather than a Mondeo.

In summer the Micralite Fastfold Super-lite is extremely practical as the mesh seat means plenty of breezes around the bottom.

The raincover is well thought-out – it folds into a small circle, which fits neatly in the included bag. This means no more mucking about underneath a pram trying to stuff a raincover in next to the shopping.

The shopping basket is sturdy. It feels like it's built to last, although it is a tad on the small side.

The Micralite Fastfold Super-lite folds and unfolds easily with one simple catch. It’s so well designed that once folded you can stand it on its end without leaning it on a wall. Great for any parent with a narrow hallway.

The handlebars are adjustable so they'll suit most heights. Adjustment is made with simple quick-release bike levers, so it's very easy to do when out and about.

What to watch out for

The only real downside is that the shopping basket is only accessible from the front. Also, if you’re particularly tall (more than 6' 3'' say) you might catch your feet on the rear wheels occasionally. But these are minor quibbles.

Who is the Micralite Fastfold Super-lite best for?

Simply, everyone.

MadeForMums verdict

The Micralite Fastfold Super-lite is a superb lightweight buggy. It is practical, stylish, sturdy and small. The excellent design even extends to the accessories, with the footmuff and raincover being so well considered.
