In a nutshell

A clever pushchair that's lightweight but extremely durable. Smart, sleek and easy to store, with a generous-sized seat, it's just a shame that it's lacking in extra accessories for the winter months...

  • Pros

Lightweight, generous seat for older children, one-hand-fold works well, strong and sturdy, easy to carry and store. Good seating positions, breathable mesh for warmer climes, four different recline positions and 3 different positions for the leg rest.

  • Cons

No rain cover, difficult to assemble, not enough accessories in the box to justify the hefty price tag. Would to have to buy extra in the winter, making it more expensive.

Our review

Opening the box, I was met with quite a few pieces that needed assembling, and it did take me well over an hour to put them together.

The canopy was particularly tricky. However, once it was finally assembled, I was amazed at how lightweight the finished article was.

Aesthetically The Cybex Mios looks good; it’s smart and sleek, and the bright red finish ensures you’ll stand out from the crowd.

It’s clear to see that the Cybex Mios is an innovative stroller. The manufacturers have really pulled out all the stops to incorporate the accessibility of a lightweight stroller with the necessity of a heavy-duty pushchair. And it’s certainly aimed at the higher end of the buying market

What’s in the Box?

What is the difference between the Cybex Mios and the iCandy Strawberry?

For me it’s the size and weight; the Cybex Mios is the overall winner for older babies and toddlers as it seems to get lighter as your child gets older, but I prefer the iCandy for a newborn baby as it has all the creature comforts you need for them to feel safe, warm and secure.

iCandy Strawberry

Pros:

  • During the winter months my Grandson seemed much more snug
  • You get more for your money - the iCandy Strawberry pack is very impressive
  • The memory fold is an excellent unique feature

Cons:

  • It’s not suitable for bigger children
  • There’s only 3 positions and they don’t sit upright
  • Its more bulky and difficult to store than the Cybex Mios

Cybex Mios

Pros:

  • Lightweight, breathable mesh seat
  • Easy to store
  • Generous seat size for bigger children

Cons:

  • There’s not enough accessories to cater for the winter months
  • It’s difficult to assemble
  • There’s not enough in the pack

All in all, the Mios is a better pushchair for an older child. The real selling point is the seat and the four different positions for both the chair and legs.

How compact is the Cybex Mios buggy?

It’s very compact, easy to close, and even easier to fold. When folded, it’s only 50cm wide

Is it lightweight?

Yes, it’s very lightweight, and easy to pick up - even with a toddler in your arms. The convenient handle at the top of the closed buggy makes it easier to lift.

Does the weight hamper its durability?

Not at all - the Mios has the durability of a full-sized pushchair. Cybex has successfully stripped the pushchair of all its bulkiness without compromising the sturdiness and practicality that’s required from a lightweight stroller.

How does it ride in the parks?

I was very surprised how well the stroller handled all the different terrains we tested it on. Initially I was dubious as I thought the lightweight frame and chassis would mean my grandson son would feel every bump we rode over, but I was amazed at how smooth the ride was. Clay seemed quite comfortable, and I noticed that the wheel suspension provided a smooth ride over every terrain we tested.

The best all-terrain buggies

Is it easy to store?

Yes, it is. Having put it in a cupboard, shed and even behind a curtain in my living room, I can safely say that on each occasion it was discreetly stored, without being obtrusive.

Is it affordable for what it is?

If you were to buy the stroller for a newborn then yes, it’s affordable, as it’s designed to grow with your child, and will certainly see you into the toddler years. If, however, you are purchasing the Mios for a toddler, the price tag is a little hefty as there’s not enough extras provided. To get all the add-ons increases the price.

What do you think of the size of the seat unit?

This is the biggest selling point. It’s one of the very few pushchairs designed with a growing toddler in mind. It boasts a reversible seat unit that’s very easy to change from parent to world-facing, and it’s generously-sized allowing a comfortable fit as your baby grows. With memory buttons, an easy click-on, click-off seat unit and the fact that Clay could comfortably wear a ski suit in it – the seat is a real highlight.

How is interacting with your little one in the buggy?

Interaction is good as you have the option of world-facing or parent-facing. My grandson seems to prefer world-facing, as he enjoys interacting with everything around him

What do you think of the fold system?

The fold system is excellent. It can be closed and folded easily with one hand, and a toddler in your arms

10 of the easiest to fold buggies

What do you think of the handle?

The handle is strong, sleek and height-adjustable. It’s also colour-coded black to match the frame of the buggy.

What do you think of the hood?

Although the hood is difficult to assemble, it’s a valued feature. The canopy zips open to extend across almost the entire front of the stroller, and gives UPF50 protection. My only concern is the winter months. The iCandy Strawberry has a strong woven fabric hood, which you can see will clearly withstand the wind and rain. The canopy on the Mios is somewhat thinner, and I’m not sure it will give the same protection in the winter months

What is the basket like?

I found the Cybex Mios storage basket very small and difficult to access. And, unfortunately, it doesn’t close as neatly when you have shopping in the basket. It’s one part of the pushchair the designers seem to have paid less attention to.

What do you think of the tyres?

The tyres are small but very durable. The Mios boasts puncture-proof wheels and a soft suspension that surprisingly handles the terrains tested very well. The small wheels compliment the design of the stroller and add to the lightweight feel.

Tell us about the brakes

There’s a very sharp one-foot push brake that is nestled nicely at the base of the stroller. It’s easy to access.

Does it fit in the boot of your car?

It fits effortlessly into the boot of the car, so much so that there’s still enough room to load the car with a weekly shop and it not be a squeeze.

How does it work as a City buggy?

The Mios is great to use on the busy streets of London. Clay and I took a trip to the supermarket and I was amazed at how little space we used in each aisle. Due to its 50cm width we glided around smoothly, leaving space for other pushchair and trolley users.

Best buggies for city life

MadeForMums verdict:

The Cybex Mios is a great lightweight stroller that handles London’s streets extremely well. And the design is exemplary. It’s a modern pushchair that successfully combines practicality without compromising on style.

The highlight for me is the size and weight. I love the fact that it has a four-position adjustment on the seat and a 3-position adjustment for the legs, which means when Clay is ready to sleep it goes from upright to sleep position in seconds without disrupting him.

The downside to this product is the lack of accessories supplied in the box. With a price tag of £600 I expected much more than was provided.

Another downside for me is the breathable mesh netting, which is great in the summers months to keep your baby cool but if you purchase the stroller in the winter months you’ll have to fork out extra to ensure you baby is warm.

All in all though, I would certainly recommend the Cybex Mios. It’s great for using on busy city streets, and stores nicely in the home.
