If you're for a luxurious, quality pram that can grow into a forward or rear facing pushchair, with a cosy car seat too, the BRIO Sing is a stylish, modern-looking answer.
The BRIO Sing travel system aims to "blend smart solutions with modern design". Like the rest of the BRIO range, it boasts contemporary design, but it's smaller - and so is the price tag.
The BRIO Sing has all the features of a full-size pram, but it's compact and easy to handle. To make it into a travel system, you remove the carrycot/pram body and add the BRIO Primo Infant Carrier. You can also change the carrycot/pram body for a seat unit to create a pushchair as your baby grows. Depending on what kind of package your retailer offers, you may have to buy the car seat separately, though most of the retailers listed on BRIO's website seem to sell the BRIO Sing with all three components included in their price.
With the carrycot/pram body, the BRIO Sing is suitable from birth to 9kg, which is roughly 9 months, and it weighs a total 13kg. As a pushchair, it's recommended from around 6 months to 3 years, and weighs a tad less at 12kg (the chassis by itself is 5.2kg). The BRIO Primo Infant Carrier is suitable until your baby is 13kg, and a BRIO ISOFIX base can be purchased separately.
What we love
The first thing you'll notice about the BRIO Sing is that it's beautiful. The aluminium chassis is so shiny you won't want to get it covered in mud, and the pram body is super-stylish. It comes in a range of fashionable colours that set off the contemporary design perfectly. If you're up for maximum fun, you can even buy a patterned design.
But enough of the shallow stuff - how does it drive? Very smoothly. It didn't take us long to get the wheels on and we found it comfortable for both mum and baby. Although there are smaller and lighter pushchairs around, the BRIO Sing is very easy to push, and so easy to steer it did a U-turn in the hall without any problem.
The BRIO Sing is sturdy, too. The brakes are solid enough for it to stay put on a particularly torrid bus journey and one of the handiest features is the solid rubber tyres. Not only do they add to the smoothness, but BRIO promises that means no punctures or flats.
Baby Mimi is 7 months old now, and we especially loved using it as a pushchair - and not just because it looks really good. The seat can face forward or rearward and it sits quite high up so your baby gets a great view of her surroundings. Because of that, there's also a lot of space in the shopping basket.
When it comes to folding and switching between the car seat, carrycot/pram body and seat unit, everything operates on a click-in system that's very obvious and easy to use. The Sing can also be folded with the pram body still attached.
To create a travel system, you need to buy the compatible car seat, BRIO's Primo Infant Carrier. And this is the Ferrari of infant carriers! It's so light that even with a growing baby you don't get arm-ache. The padding and material is so soft it made me want to get in there and curl up. On a more practical note, it's easy to click into the chassis and wheels nicely.
After I'd spent a day pushing the BRIO Sing, I really noticed the difference when I went back to my regular pram - it's so smooth, but feels really sturdy and it's particularly light and compact when you attach the BRIO Primo and use it as a travel system.
What to watch out for
Swapping the carrycot/pram body and folding the BRIO Sing always involves two hands as the click-in system has buttons to press at each side. So if you're looking for something you can fold one-handed, it might not be for you.
It feels light enough to push, but when it comes to actually carrying it once folded, there are a lot of more lightweight options around.
While certainly not the most expensive travel system on the market, there are a options that are much cheaper. For around £500 you may need to think hard about whether to go for this luxurious option.
