The Silver Cross Classic Sleepover features an overnight carrycot, pram and a reversible pushchair, which means you can use it in either rear facing or forward facing positions. You can even turn in into the Silver Cross Classic Sleepover travel system by purchasing the optional Silver Cross Ventura Plus car seat for £115.
With a one-click, 4-point locking system, the carrycot can be attached to the Classic chassis. A wooden rocking Moses stand is included with the buggy – pop the carrycot on this, and you’ve got a rather handy Moses basket arrangement. A white pique Moses set is included to complete it. The mattress has built in ventilation so air can move freely. Once your baby’s older, this carrycot-come-Moses-basket becomes the actual pushchair unit.
There’s a choice of two different types of chassis with the Silver Cross Sleepover buggy – the Classic chassis that I tested (hence the name ‘Silver Cross Classic Sleepover') or the Linear chassis (which gives you the Silver Cross Linear Sleepover pushchair or travel system). The Linear chassis is lighter in weight, compact and aimed at urban dwellers. The Classic chassis has that “X” look of prams from yesteryear and big spoked wheels. The big wheels are designed to give a smooth ride over bumps.
What we love
If you opt for the Silver Cross Classic Sleepover, chances are you’ll have one of the best-looking pram-come-pushchairs around. The finish is luxe and classy, with thick fabrics and leatherette trim.
Such a deluxe product does result in a comfy ride for your baby. The mattress is soft, and the sides and seat of the pushchair are well padded. The heavy-duty fabric means it should hold up well, too.
Having a carrycot that doubles as Moses basket is a definite bonus too, especially if you were already planning on buying one. It does add value and versatility to this buggy, knowing you’ve got this handy feature.
What to watch out for
The size of the Silver Cross Classic Sleepover is its biggest drawback. This is especially the case for a buggy designed for overnight use. If you’ve got a small car, you could be ruled out from owning this buggy if you ever want to get it in the boot! Fitting the chassis, carrycot and the Moses stand into a boot is a struggle, and there’s a lot of extra padding or dressing included, too. While the chassis folds (to 81cm x 60cm x 46cm), the carrycot doesn't.
The Silver Cross Classic Sleepover is also not the ideal choice for public transport, busy high streets or less spacious homes.
Manoeuvrability is a problem. It runs smoothly in a straight line, due to its fixed wheels and air cavity tyres. But if you want to change direction, the shifting required is heavy work!
The release handles on the carrycot are hidden under fabric flaps on either side making them hard to access. I found the mechanism tricky to operate and because of the buggy’s size, it was difficult to hold both handles simultaneously. First time around it took me several attempts before I could detach the pram body. Also each time since then, a fair amount of effort has been needed to detach it.
This is a complicated product to assemble, and the poor quality images in the manual don’t help this. The photos of the different parts are small and unclear, so it’s hard to figure out which part is which.
Who is Silver Cross Classic Sleepover best for?
Country mums with plenty of space to house this large luxury pram.
The Silver Cross Classic Sleepover is beautiful and you’ll certainly have a very well cushioned baby onboard. Having a carrycot, Moses basket and pushchair unit in one item is a clever feature, too. However, if you’re short on space, drive a small car, use public transport or shop in busy areas, this isn’t the easiest option. Definitely one for mums and dads with a bit of room or large cars.
