Take a swim in the outdoor heated pool

“My husband Ben, 27, and myself, stayed with our two children, Miles, 3, and Sophie, 6 months, in one of 15 gorgeously furnished (sleeping from two to six), self-catered apartments nestled close to a beautiful hidden gem called Lamorna Cove. About a 15-minute drive from Penzance, these apartments, and the surrounding area, have heaps on offer for young families.

“All apartments can be equipped with a cot, baby bath, high chair and monitor – just request them when you book – and there’s even a free welcome pack with cereal, bread, butter, jams, milk, tea, coffee and sugar. And the best bit – you get lovely hot, fresh croissants delivered to your door every morning. A definite highlight for Miles! There’s an onsite restaurant too, or you can cook in the comfort of your apartment.

“Buckets, spades and fishing rods can be borrowed and all baby gear to borrow is included in the price. Both children enjoyed spending time in the outdoor heated swimming pool and we also had a day out at Sennen Cove – a beautiful golden beach 15 minutes away in the car. If you don’t want to go that far then tiny, sandy Lamorna Cove is a stone’s throw from the apartment.

“Fans of walking should definitely take the hour’s stroll to Mousehole – the setting for the classic children’s story The Mousehole Cat. You can even see the place where the cuddly little cat lived. Sophie came along with me in a sling as it was too far for Miles to walk and wasn’t a buggy-friendly path. The boys stayed behind to have fun on the onsite play area and tree house.

“For some child-free time take advantage of the sauna or book a massage – babysitters can be booked in advance. And if it’s all too much you can crash out in the apartment – make sure you bring some DVDs and games, or borrow some from reception.”

Holiday highlight

“A trip to Land’s End with amazing views of the coast. If you take the buggy, be warned the path’s a bit bumpy.”
